Love Is

Love is:
"Do you know what Love is?
everyone says they do,
or at least they think they do,
but Love isn't a fairy tale.
It isn't a happy ending at the end of some cheesy movie.
Love is pain, Love is torture,
Love is watching the ones you care about the most change.
Friends, family, lovers, they all change,
and not always for the best,
but if you love them, you love them regardless.
Yes they may hurt you,
in ways you hoped they wouldn't,
but because that is what the true face of love is.
Love is torment. Love is torture, and opening yourself up,
just to have your heart ripped out of your chest.
This pain, this feeling of love,
it reminds us of what is real
and what we really feel.
Love isn't always meant to last,
but it is meant to guide us.
To send us into the arms of another lover,
one who can teach us further,
and choose to fix, or to break us,
because love and the love of your life,
it is not one person, but the journey itself.
The journey that sends you into the embrace of another,
one who can understand all that you have gone through,
and all of your wants,
just as you can understand theirs.
Love is a quest we all undertake,
so that one day, one precious day,
we can find the one who takes our hands,
looks us in the eye and say;
You will Bleed for Me and I will Bleed for You."

About this poem:
This is a poem by the author Rocky Rochford. He has published a number of poems over the years, but this is my favourite one. It appears in his novel, A Work in Progress (The Life of a Disgraced Author.) By no means is Rochford famous, but he's an author I've had the privilege of knowing. Writes characters like you wouldn't believe and this poem just catches the essence of the book and its protagonist perfectly.
