Benidorm Island is a small island off the coast of Benidorm (Spain). It has a high ecological landscape and environment. It lies about two miles Benidorm nautical port. It has no permanent population and is currently a nature reserve, It is famous for its Peacocks and is know locally as Peacock Island. Tourists travel to the Island daily from the Port of Benidorm. As of writing this article I paid 12 euros for a return trip which included a semi - submarine ride as well for about 15 minutes when you reached the island. It is approximately 2 miles from the mainland by boat and takes about 20 minutes to get there. In 1834 the island served as refuge for several families of Benidorm and Villajoyosa, who fled from their villages before a cholera epidemic. Centuries ago, pirates used it as a base for attacks on coastal towns. The island has always had a great wealth of fish and the seabed highly coveted by divers. The exploitation of the water was always reserved for Benidorm until 1506, when King Ferdinand also extended this privilege to the town of Villajoyosa Among the birds that nest the island has the "common Mediterranean Storm-petrel " The fauna is composed of the Iberian Lizard, the Pallid Swift, Sardinian Warbler, “Peregrine Falcons, among others.
