The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Foxy Lady (Miami Pop Festival 1968)

The Miami Pop Festival was held at the Gulfstream Park thoroughbred race track Saturday and Sunday May 18 & 19, 1968. This venue is about 6 miles from my house. If I recall, Hendrix was booked to play both days.
I was a musician at the time and our band was performing Saturday night at a local teen center. Knowing Hendrix would be one of the acts in the late afternoon to evening, there wasn't enough time to be at the Festival Saturday and make it to our gig, so our plans were to attend the festival on Sunday... specifically to see Hendrix.

We got to the park shortly after it opened Sunday and visited the artwork area, socialized with friends and listened to some name acts. I remember watching the roadies for Frank Zappa, and the Mothers of Invention setting up Acoustic brand amplification. These speaker cabinets were new and pulled out of cardboard boxes, unwrapped for this gig. Impressive. I had experience seeing other touring musicians perform, but the volume and clarity of The Mothers was amazing. We were psyched the rest of the day.

There was rain... mostly light rain on and off throughout the afternoon. As it continued toward early evening it began to pour and the festival had to stop.

Due to bad weather, I lost my only chance to see Jimi Hendrix live.

So here he is from Saturday's performance... Foxy Lady.
