@ Monte, Girl - Yuk, at least my mum used fresh water for each load.... ... she also had a ripple board and always used Sunlight soap for the washing, the pegs were the 'dolly' type used on a washing line that consisted of two poles in the ground about 20 feet apart, each one had a 'T' section of timber across the top with a twisted wire line running from each end to the 'T' section ontop of the other pole.Clothing material was a lot more heavy-duty back then, synthetic clothes these days would fall apart on a ripple board in three washes.....

I'm glad you like it Monte. In two or three weeks it has changed here. I live far up north, not too far away from the Arctic Circle, or the same latitude as northern Alaska. Our summer is very short, from early/mid June to late August. The winter are usually 6 months long!Despite tough conditions, I'm not ready to give it up. Our pay off is the light summer nights.

Beautiful pic ABC. A little hard but I wanted to see what it looked like. Two more months and we on the east coast will be seeing a lot of pretty leaves on the ground. I live in the mountains so I see lots of trees all the time changing their colors.

My mother had a washing machine like this. And it was my job to do the laundry. Disgusting way to wash clothes. There would be three or four loads of clothing. Each load went in the same washing water. Then put them through the wringer into the same rinsing water. We didn't have a dryer so the clothes were either hung outside which only made them dirty again from the air and birds. If we hung them in the basement they would be stiff when I took them off the clothesline. Thank goodness that someone invented washer and drying machines

@ Monte, Girl - .. My mother used to have a similar washing machine when we first came to Australia. I remember the wringer used to break buttons and sometimes the clothing got tangled in the wringer.... there was also a large 'copper pot' in the corner of the laundry that needed a wood fire lit under it to heat the water....
Mum had a 1 metre long flat stick that she used to move boiling hot (white) sheets from the pot to the concrete sink, she used the same stick to threaten us if we got out of line..... Mum has long passed away but I still have that stick as a momento....

@ abc - I had considered the idea but looking at the body language of the bear it does look realistic, plus the way the ice has melted looks plausible, the top being shaded by the bear during the midday sun and the ice submerged would have got less sun, water also being warmest near the surface would create that shape in the iceburg....

My town

It's a fairly small city, less than 70000 people.
I'm not sure about posting more Pictures here, since I don't Believe other cs members would find my city interesting.
Print the Word Luleå and make a picture search with google and you'll find lots of interesting summer and Winter pictures. This coast line has a great archipelago.

We need something like Donald and Daisy every now and then. It’s called relaxing. I use the puzzles to relax. Yes, it was sad to read about Robert Williams. The media here wrote about it too. He was well known here too….I guess we’ll see you on the forum soon..
