need advice about a new puppy.

i just got a new jack russell puppy, she is 12 weeks old. when i first got her she was very nervous and scared which i didnt worry much about because of a new place and everything well i have had her for almost a week now and she just hides in corners and lays around and sleeps. i was wondering if she still needs time to adjust to her new surroundings or is there something i can do to make her feel more comfortable? i pet her and spend time with her all day, but her behavior is not changing. if anyone has any advice it would be very much appreciated! thanks.

I have a rack russell... and he is now 6 years old....
when i first got him as a puppy he was like that too, but he gradually adjusted...
They get nervous easily... make sure you pet her lots and talk to it..
Give her a few weeks to settle down..wave
I' m not an expert, but I think pets like humans may need different time frame to adjust to new environment and situation. I do believe you are doing everything right. She may have had a prior bad experience. If you continue what you are doing she will gradually develop the confidence and come around with time. Be patient. Just my two cents.thumbs up
As a formerly nationally endorsed dog obedience instructor, trained dog groomer, and successful AKC obedience trial competitor who owns a Terrier Group breed, I'm well-versed in dogs and their issues. I'd be happy to help you make your new "kid" more confident, but I'd need more info. Feel free to send me a personal email here. handshake
I agree with Glddgs that with puppies you can help the cause a lot - you will be surprised, if you:

1: Spend some time with the puppy down on the floor. Let the little guy play with you on his level.
2: Don't isolate the dog in a separate room by itself at night. This may involve getting up to attend his bathroom needs at 3:00am but that's part of the responsibility.

One more thing - be careful how you introduce a Jack Russel to cats. They seems to run right up and might get scratched.

Good luck.
