Basque separatists do not move much at the moment, and anyway they are rather in Spain. The Béarn is not the Basque country.
The Béarn is at the foot of the Pyrenees (the mountain) and not far from the sea, for relaxation, you can choose.
If you go in the southwest of France, you must eat foie gras, extraordinaire.

But if you have want to go to Corsica it's another story.
i have not visited a place yet in france that was not "friendly for retirees..."....its a wonderful country with a wonderful ppl..you WILL need to learn french of course.the french are very pro american...wish i could say the same for the british.
By the way Bearn is not a city but a region, the inhabitants are called Béarnais and Béarnaises .. do you ever dream of becoming one of them ??? weather is not great today hows yours ?
