Death By His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Death is a natural part of life, surely we all have to face one day.
For me, there are two ways to address the issue while we are alive. We can choose to ignore,or look ahead to the prospect of our own death and, thinking clearly on it, try to minimize the suffering it brings.
However, in neither case can actually win it. As a Buddhist, I see death as a normal process, accept a reality that will occur at the end of my earthly existence. I see no sense in worrying about it, since it can not escape. I tend to think of death as a change of clothes - an outfit that has aged and no longer provides - rather than as an absolute end.
However, death is unpredictable, we do not know how or when it will take place. So, it is only wise to take precautions before it occurs. Of course, most of us would like die smoothly, but it is also clear that we can not hope to die peacefully if our lives here are filled with violence, and our minds were often agitated by emotions such as anger, attachment, or fear. So if we want to die well, we must learn to live well: if we expect to die in peace, we must cultivate peace in our mind and way of life.
