Namaste

In India when we meet someone for the first time we greet them by joining both palms fingers facing upwards and say `Namaste'
The younger ones touch the feet of their elders and seek their blessing, different countries have different ways of greeting ,as people from all over the world are here it would be interesting to know how you greet people in your own country.

In the USA, we stand about three feet-(0.9144m) apart and say."Hi, how are you doin'?".
We great people with shaking hands. When we meet a new person we get their right hand with our right hand and then we say our name.
When it comes to someone we do not need to take in the hand, just someone we meet on the street whom we know a little, we just say hi.teddybear handshake
Here...middle finger up, right hand...if you don't have right hand; left hand is OK!...handshake <----------Nah! J/K...this is it! wine yay peace
hey cuddling soul why do you stand so far when you meet some one
In New York: "What you staring at? You got a problem with me? Hun?"
Gullie are you serious or joking?
Good question Miss india, I think it's because, being too close to someone new, may be an invasion of one's personal space.
but 3 feet apart is too far I think, what if the person is deaf?
I'm sorry, what ? rolling on the floor laughing
what I meant to say is that if you stand far and if a person is deaf how will he hear you?
India, it all depends on what type of person we are meeting, here if it's a lady with whom you expect to be friends a kiss on both cheeks is normal, as a rule I try not to touch strangers feetdunno laugh rolling on the floor laughing cswelcome
If someone is deaf, of course we would come closer. If totaly deaf? Just smile and wave. wave
mountain different countries have different cultures here we touch our elders feet as a mark of respect and thanks
We stand across each other and do this

moping Very funny Scotty, now beam down my clothes.
I heard in some East African tribes they spit at each others feet when they meet
India, that's one of the benefits of an international site like this, we all learn so much about different cultures, however I would be wary of a stranger touching my feet, partly as it's not the custom here & partly because I wouldn't like to be considered elderly, uh oh laugh rolling on the floor laughing
I like your sense of humuor cuddling soul
Thanks Miss india. blushing
mounatin a man is as young as he thinks eveything is in your mind
All you get here is "G'Day!!!" laugh laugh laugh..

Hi India.

I'm back India: I don't know how they greet in New York. But I was just giving you the attitude that you may easily find there. I doubt if New Yorkers have a greeting because of that attitude. I was told a joke (or maybe it wasn't) that as you enter New York city, there is a large sign on the highway saying: "You are entering New York City, You got a Problem with That?" dunno confused rolling on the floor laughing
namaste' even our president does this..no one kisses on the mouth, except for celebrities?
