Hi Ten,
We also have a bit of black on white racism in South Africa but it is sporadic. There is a lot of goodwill amongst the different peoples of South Africa. It is mainly some political groups that will practise racism.

As for myself, I ignore racial slurs if it comes my way. Stick and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me.professor

I often wonder if there is not another reason why people of African origins don't do as well as their white brothers. They may well have a different mindset.

Here in South Africa you find black people with good education and good jobs, driving smart cars and dressing in brand name clothing. While they are perfectly capable of going to any bank to secure a bond to buy a proper house, they prefer to live in informal settlements.

You will find them living in tin shacks, quite prepared to sit there for twenty years until goverment gives them substandard houses intended for the poor. They have a mindset that government must provide everything for free.

I assume this comment is intended for me.

Yes. That happens here too. And young girls make babies which are passed on to grandparents to get children's grants. But these are poor people. Children are seen as revenue.

What I referred to are people who can afford to buy a house but simply won't. And yes, it is not limited to blacks, but it is predominantly black people. The whites make up more or less 10% of the population but you will find only one in a thousand whites living in informal settlements and they are really poor. They're not idling waiting for housing. They have nowhere else to go.sigh moping

RE: More Important

Thanks Fargo for your reply. I think
1) Statistics can be misused
2) we can't conclude it's racism just cos one group do less good than another,
has to be investigated more deeply.
Like someone said here Geramany is bad on racism
but I suspect Norway is even worse.

That's it for me on questions of racism for now,
as this issue is not fully understood just by a line or two.
I feel pretty confident that the USA is far from the worst, and one more thing:
Donald Trump made the divide smaller, not bigger.
He is good for the blacks and latino too, trust me on that one.

China's Belt and Road initiative begins to crumble

Are you joking? Look at the report released by Russia's own Ministry of Finance. Russia oil and gas revenues have plummeted almost 70%, Russia has no way of transporting it's gas. It has only one LNG transformation plant. There are only 2 way to ship gas. Via pipeline, or as LNG. Russia never bothered to build gas storage facilities as it imagined Nordstream and Nordstream II would be forever things, and they weren't. The pipelines are gone and Russia has been forced to begin shutting down the gas wells.

Similar with oil. You can easily track how much oil is sold by the number of oil tankers going to Russian terminals and by the capacity of their few remaining pipeline. Russian oil sales are way, way down by volume. China has begun to stop buying oil from Russia and now buys a fair amount from Saudi Arabia and other mid-Eastern facilities, simply because the transport costs are much cheaper from the Mid East than from Russia.

The end rusult is since ol and gas revenues were the main export product of Russia, Russia's income is way, way down and their own publicly published budget shows it. What have you been smoking?

RE: One Guilty. Eighteen more to go...

I doubt very much the various prosecutors are corrupt, but that's not to say that the system is perfect, nor that it will be viewed as the best it could be in one, or two hundred years from now. I'm certainly not convinced that US plea deal tactics are the best way to reveal truth and justice.

It's clearly the best available in this moment, however, given the high profile and highly skilled prosecutors bringing the Georgia and Washington cases. The judges are admirable, too.

I don't think you can argue that the only agenda is to interfere with the election, either. Besides the fact that Trump is getting way more privileges than anyone else would in the same circumstances in a bid not to corrupt the democratic process, I come from a country where our Prime Minister was ditched because he hypocritically went to a party during the pandemic lockdown.

It's utterly unfathomable to me that the US hasn't turned their back on Trump for being a sex offender, never mind the fraud and alleged conspiracy to overturn the democratic process. It's like asking a creepy uncle to babysit your kids: you know in the back of your mind it could ruin your kids' lives, but you deserve a night out so just push the thought away.

I'm not sure anyone can separate holding him to account for his liabilities and alleged crimes and stopping him from running for presidential office again. If he has engaged in wrongful activities he shouldn't be above the law just because he's running for office, and if he is running for office, legally holding him to account for his wrong-doing is a structured and thorough means of demonstrating he's an inappropriate candidate.

In the UK we'd just have a committee meeting about it.

RE: One Guilty. Eighteen more to go...

Clearly you don't understand how polls work, any more than you do the very basics of US law.

Surveys are inherently biased because they rely on a self-selected subject (sample) pool simply because you have two groups of people - those who respond to the survey and those who don't. For that reason alone there's a limit to what you can infer from polls.

Your subject pool may be further contaminated by surveyor selection - if your sample is taken from Floridian retirement homes you'll likely get a very different outcome than if your sample is taken from a group of students.

There are any number of ways that you can bias a poll from your ability to randomise subject selection, the questions asked, or the administration of each survey.

The results can also be presented out of context, or in a biased manner. Saying 45% of Democrats believe fraud impacted the 2020 election doesn't tell you how they thought it did. You've written it (thankfully in paragraphs which is novel for you) in a way that implies that these Democrats think the fraud was of the MAGA stolen election ilk.

However, it could have been to do with Trump's attempt to scupper the UPS, gerrymandering in favour of the Republicans including racial gerrymandering (there are such a lot of cases being litigated and won at the moment), Trumps (mis)use of Cambridge Analytica, the voters Trump attempted to disenfranchise by asking for votes to be found, or not counted, defrauding the people by lying, or indeed the the whole issue of conspiring to overturn the election.

So, no, your out of context poll results of unknown methodology, or source are not devastating to the Democratic party at all. Your claim is itself fraudulent, though.

RE: Being lonely kind of sucks..

Nothing puts off women more than a man who exudes desperation, women are more attracted to men who display confidence. In my experience.

Your post reeks of total desperation and self-loathing, you need to get a hobby that allows you to excel and thereby builds your confidence and self-worth.

Remember many men have sisters, so don't limit yourself to joining predominately female clubs.

Model boat/car/aeroplane construction
Radio control hobbies
Amature Radio, you would need to learn and take an exam to get a licence, so lots of access to many people.
Evening classes
Photography
Programming (computer games)
The list is endless

The final advice is to delete this blog as it will have a bad effect on any possible meetings up.

Regarding confidence:-

Think of someone who you find very confident, then put yourself in their shoes in a particular scenario, and just "borrow" his confidence, believe me, this works and gradually your own confidence will build up and become the new confident Philip.

I taught public speaking for decades, impossible to count the number of students, there were so many who lacked the confidence to speak to a group of 5, but after following the above advice they confidently gave speeches to audiences of over 500 made up of students, teachers and judges.

Believe in yourself and anything is possible.

You cannot blame all of that to apartheid. The ANC had almost thirty years to bring about change but instead they preferred to line their own pockets. We handed them a good infrastructure and they dismantled it for their own benefit but I don't know why you're heading this way with the blog. The topic was something completely different.

No, I am not picking sides either.
But saying that Palestine is guilty for allowing Hamas infiltrate Gaza is like saying Afganistan was guilty for being taken over by the Talibans.
We did see how America and other ""civilized" countries managed" to deal with that for a couple of decades and left the country even more crippled. Israel isn't the one who decides how Palestinians should live, but they do and no one says a word.
And if we speak about races and violence let's take Spain and Portugal for example, being occupied by the Arabs for ages.
Do you know that the biggest racist are actually the Asians?!
We need to take the racial glasses off once and forever and accept that this was part of the human behaviour,
Black people were the first to enslave their own people. Who is going to pay reparations for that? Just wondering.

I suppose you're talking about the Soviet republics, but that is no excuse. The USA will train and arm anybody with their outdated equipment as long they can gain some advantage by doing so. Yes they worked with the Taliban but then afterwards, while they occupied Afghanistan, they trained and armed the Afghans who were quite capable of resisting the Taliban but they preferred not to fight them.

That war did do some good though. It brought about the collapse of what Ronald Reagan dubbed the Evil Empire.banana applause head banger

RE: More Important

Personally, when I see sweeping headlines with emotive declarations I check a few other sources. That’s just me. I do sometimes think that really is JUST me sigh but then my pet bugbear is all media slanting news, whether they be left or right. It is unforgivable and disgraceful.

Firstly - Al Jazeera reliability generally is reasonably well rated. Okay? handshake Forgive me for not being left wing, it does influence my judgement. I have this ridiculous obsession with accurate unbiased reporting. dunno

"Allsides.com – Al Jazeera’s Lean Left rating was confirmed in review in June 2022 - Reviewers on the left, center, and right detected types of media bias including Lean Left slant, story choice, bias by omission, opinion presented as fact, subjective qualifying adjectives, and word choice in Al Jazeera's content."

"Wikipedia - Al Jazeera has a large audience, but the organization (particularly its original Arabic channel) has been criticized for its alleged involvement in controversies ranging from slanted journalism to anti-Hindu bias and anti-Israel bias."

Secondly - This particular story blames apartheid and colonialism for the fact that 10% of population owns more than 80% of wealth. It doesn’t mention that 2 of the people on the top 20 richest are State President Cyril Ramaphosa at #17, with a mere $450 million, and Patrice Motsepe at #4 with $2.7 billion. Lean Left journalism. Don’t spoil a good story with facts. Only TWO out of TWENTY, I hear you cry, that’s SHOCKING. Well, all 20 (okay, maybe not Ramaphosa) employ a great many people and you may not be aware that B.E.E. legislation ensures nearly all of those will be black. So don’t be thinking the other 18 are huddled in little white enclaves. Look up B.E.E. for yourselves, you and Jac, do you good.

Forbes doesn’t have any black billionaires in the top twenty. wow Alert Al Jazeera, we have a scandal here they’ve got to cover.

Thirdly - who do we blame for the world figures? A mere 1.1% hold nearly half the world’s total wealth.

I suspect Al Jazeera does pretty well out of excitable stories – I couldn’t track down its worth in the time I was prepared to give it but Qatar Investment Authority (from which Al Jazeera is financed) is estimated to be worth somewhere north of $85 billion. Maybe one day they’ll do an exposé on themselves grin

Anyone want to place a bet on which of my comments will be taken out of context and attacked? I’m running a small book . . .

Apologies, Cat hijack but it grates my carrot when I'm accused of, what was it, "blurting".

Hi Suzie,
No need to apologize. Remember, this blog is defined as opiniated and therefore the comments are opiniated as well. As opinion is not based on fact but rather personal preference, everybody is entitled to an own opinion, whether that be correct or not.

As for Al Jeera (and any other news outlet) their credibility is relative to your orientation. News media report what their viewers, listeners & readers want to see, hear or read. It all depends where you stand.grin wave

Totally agree everyone is entitled to an opinion. But when they make that opinion a personal attack, especially a stupid one, as so often on CS, the person attacked is entitled to opine back. JMO. laugh

It IS interesting that no-one, yet, has come up with an intelligent counter to your actual blog content. And that nobody has responded to my comment about the damage caused in protests, the people who lose out big time but don't apparently matter.

And now I do have to go and do other stuff, back in a week mas o menos

Well, they did what they had to do, stepped back. Knowing USA is behind the scene.
It backfired and blew up in the American face.
Many more lives were lost, unnecessary.
Is that what we want, pretending we care when we bet on sides of a conflict.
The result of the Israely Palestinian situation is a proof of that.
It's all about someone's interest when people die and these same people get blamed for making someone kill them.

Taking us on a guilt trip to places most of us have never been.

I wont pick sides too, but rather take the route of logic.
Anyone that can hold more than 2 million people captive in this relatively small space is insane.
The people of Palestine was offered freedom and prosperity by Hamas, an organization that hates all Jews, and who in their right mind can blame them for accepting Hamas or in fact 'anyone' that promises a tiny improvement on current issues, as the saviour?

@ Jack,
I would suggest that you find a B&B in Tembisa and visit for a few day before believing a TV station that was apparently influenced by the very wealthy criminal Gupta family, for stealing from SA coffers, which are on the currently on the most wanted list of Interpol. They will do and say just about anything to take the spotlight off them. Why I suggested Tembisa?, because you seem to me very similar in your ways to Tembiseans, as they too always very subtly love starting shit with any available folks. Hopefully you might find a suitable it there for you.

Yesterday I watched a video clip of a black woman that went ballistic in a rast food restaurant, continuously attacking and slapping the white manageress until the manageress retaliated and really gave her something to think about. When the cops arrived the 'lady' stated that SHE was attacked first cos she was black.
When the video was presented true colors once again emerged and she was arrested.

Too fond of playing the race card is underestimated, its gets totally abused at every possibly geleentheid.
