More Important

Few things can annoy me more than people who think their cause is more important than others who are in a similar situation.

BLM comes to mind. It is not that I think that black lives don't matter. To me, when a white (or black) cop kills a black (or white) man in the USA, it is no different than when a black (or white) vagrant kills a white (or black) farmer in South Africa. The fact is that all lives matter. scold

Sometimes we are too fond of playing the race card when we cannot get our way otherwise. In my experience such a person either secretly resent who he is and really wish he was somebody else or otherwise he uses racism as a ruse to gain sympathy for his cause.

Using racism as a prop just takes the focus away from the real problem.professor

yes but no but confused

Thing is I agree with you, all lives matter. But some lives matter more, to some people, than other lives. For example riots caused by the whole BLM height-of-hysteria destroyed lots of smaller shops, owned by all colours of people, but that didn't matter.

It's the underdog. We have to get indignant about the underdog. Anyone who owns anything they have worked hard to get - even a job, frankly - is an Overdog and doesn't matter nearly as much as an Underdog. The tougher life is for someone, the more support they need. So women can play the card, and disabled, and non-dominant-races and teenagers from bad homes can all play the card and the card is a pretty strong card. Except that other lives also still matter ... I think.

How NICE to see you back handshake
Agree with you!
But as we know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Loudness is intimidating for normal, thinking people.
Violence even more so.
We look stupid in their eyes and timid too.
dunno
And now, it is the Palestinian cause matters more than Jewish lives...

It is fed by the same people...and, some of the woke are really waking up...

Supporting terrorists who would kill all Jews, then all gays and trans, then all Christians, then ALL non-believers, and next ALL Islamic people who do not follow their radical extremist Islamic teachings.
Hi Suziecute,
Thanks, nice to be here for a change.

You hit the nail perfectly. That is exactly what I implied..dancing wave

Oh by the way, I cannot recall somebody by your name.if you know something that I should know, please inform me.wink
Hi Ten,
Quite so. A very sad situation. Especially when they taught us about empty vessels. Maybe we should try to get our school fees back.confused wave
Hi Gone,
It is amazing. When I wrote this blog a few weeks ago it was relatively quiet in the holy land. It just comes to prove that double standards and political correctness will always upset the apple cart. Oh but of course, there are quite a few elections looming. You must remember that politicians are very skilled at self preservation.rolling on the floor laughing wave
Except the rest of us aren't in a similar situation as those who are the subject of the BLM movement.

We, as white people, have the privilege of unequal treatment in our favour and have thought our cause more important than theirs for centuries.

Really, we ought to be most annoyed at, and ashamed of ourselves for enjoyng the benefits of playing our race card for so long.
Don't forget that you are talking about yourself and your own privileges. Ah, and your card too.
I am not feeling guilty for working hard for everything I have and so are my ancestors.
People like you put a rift between races.
And make a great job of keeping it grow wider.
Hamas is not Palestine.
There will always be extremists who will use any chance to provoke.
Very recently a German Catholic abbot was harassed by a Israeli guard in Jerusalem for wearing a cross, which is part of his attire. No big deal for anyone as we didn't see a media outrage.
There are gays and trans in Muslim countries, nobody is killing them but there are rules they should comply with. It is called respectful behaviour in public places, something we don't see in our part of the world.
Lets not just talk nonsense for the sake of being dramatic.
Every life matters has been proven one of the most hypocritical statements as it usually comes from places that don't care in the least.
Hi Jac,
Yes I must acknowledge that our forefathers did no act very civilized, but no matter what happened in the past, it cannot make one murder more important than another.professor wave
I agree with you Ten though I do acknowledge that - especially in this country - my way was made smoother by denying some parts of the population to compete for employment.cool wave
Is the rift wider between the races wider for having acknowledged that apartheid and white rule is an unacceptable way to live?

Do you feel that people of colour were playing the race card when they fought against apartheid and white rule?
I don't want to pick sides here because both sides committed terrible crimes. And yes again, Hamas is not Palestine but the Palestinians should not have allowed Hamas to infiltrate Gaza. In a sense Gaza invited this. One cannot expect Israel to accept this and when Hamas use Palestinians as a human shield ... Wait! I'm talking too much.scold wave
Jac, this question is decades too late. We have admitted our mistakes and we're working very hard to build a nation. Old cows are not going to fix anything. Only cooperation will work here.conversing wave
Bygones. The horse is DEAD, hon. It was a political situation created by all the western governments in 1948. It went on far longer than was necessary. It ended 30 years ago by the will of the white voting population. The median age in SA (as now, 2023) is 27.5629.

Hey, much more to the point, was this stinky old equine seriously the only defence you can mount for the emotive manipulation of protest movements?

popcorn
I'm glad it's all over for you.

Jac, when I was there in 11 on my renowned date with Tanya I noticed how the pendilum had swung properly and now whites in the super market was goanna feel how it was to be ignored at the blacks working the check out counter, lol. Treating whities as not worthy of service or poilitenss. I smiled of it and enganged in jokes with them and then the chatter between them slowed for a second... like who's this fella' wow ..so you don't have to worry about apartheid nomore. Now all we have to make sure is that the Zimbabwe thingy don't get launched. I have a friend who's soon moving there, he is white. Let's hope he will be safe without a holster and a 44 purple heart
Oh, before I turn in... gotta mention there was 1 black young gentleman at the airport diner, he got it!
Wow what service! Did I give him a hug?- I don't remb, prolly a hand shake at least... and all my remaining rand went to him. heart1
What an incredibly snide smug pompous insufferable priggish little comment that was! Well DONE! applause

Seriously, you can quote Aljazeera to anyone as a reputable source? roll eyes That explains so much. I don't tolerate regurgitated BS and don't personally give a strong opinion until I've done proper research. Ever. Yes, there is inequality. Check out a few more intelligent sources then start a blog on the subject instead of hijacking one for your thrashed-out old hobbyhorses.

Include me out (sic) of further debate unless you bring in something topical and related to this actual blog.

No, Catfoot, we don't know each other, but you date back to happier times on CS, and the topic was an interesting one on its own merits. There could even have been debate and intelligent contrasting viewpoints. Oh well. I'd be quite okay with you deleting my comments from this one.

Ego. Over blown pride in kind and self. It has always been. Family pride. Tribal pride. Nation pride. And we are better than you who are better than them. Why? Because we think so.
Now in this modern world of spoiled, it is ten times worse. Look at ads. You earned it. You deserve it. And the young believe it. If you dont act like me, think like me, dress like me, look like me..I hate you. Reason really? Because I have inherited primitive urges to fear anything different.
It all goes down to the basic animal instinct. Protect yourself, family, village. Gather all the resources to yourself and family and village. Humans are just like hyenas. Kill if you can. Steal if you can't.
Hi Suzie, I guess that explains about me too, as I consider the Aljazeera as a reputable source.

Hi Catfoot, it's been long time, glad to see you back. wave
If it's good enough for you (and Sir Clive Stafford-Smith), it's good enough for me.
You cannot blame all of that to apartheid. The ANC had almost thirty years to bring about change but instead they preferred to line their own pockets. We handed them a good infrastructure and they dismantled it for their own benefit but I don't know why you're heading this way with the blog. The topic was something completely different.

Hi orzzz,
Gee, why so pessimistic? Or perhaps I must take of these rose tinted specs. Life is not so bad. It is beautiful out there. So many places to go and things to do.
Hi Kal,
I won't be staying long. I just tested the water, so to speak. By the way from all the things I see on France24 I think India is much worse than South Africa. Actually I thank quite a few other are even worse.dancing wave
Hi Jac.
You were in the habit of hijacking my blogs for your own agendas. I have been away for a very long time and here, my first blog in years, and you are at it again. I suppose one should get used to it. And as for Aljazeera... Jawellnofine.doh
Don't give up on us completely Cat.
We need more normaliaty here, if the place is to survive.
cheers
Al jazeera (by and large) give an even-handed alternative view on global events, and your out-of-hand dismissal merely reflects your own bias and stereotypes. Who has more credibility, do you think, Al jazeera or Fox and other Murdoch media? hmmm? You almost certainly don't know, but your prejudice will no doubt see you blurt out anti statements, without any of the research you claim. You just expressed a strong opinion based on zero research and zero thought.
No, I am not picking sides either.
But saying that Palestine is guilty for allowing Hamas infiltrate Gaza is like saying Afganistan was guilty for being taken over by the Talibans.
We did see how America and other ""civilized" countries managed" to deal with that for a couple of decades and left the country even more crippled. Israel isn't the one who decides how Palestinians should live, but they do and no one says a word.
And if we speak about races and violence let's take Spain and Portugal for example, being occupied by the Arabs for ages.
Do you know that the biggest racist are actually the Asians?!
We need to take the racial glasses off once and forever and accept that this was part of the human behaviour,
Black people were the first to enslave their own people. Who is going to pay reparations for that? Just wondering.

handshake
I'm picking side grin
But that don't mean you don't want good 4all.
Same with Ukraine.
@op so people with strong strident views on whatever topic get your goat do they? You wish they'd just shutup and remain silent do you? The dozens of Gays murdered in Australia in the late 20th century, well no one should speak up about them, right, because it irritates you? The millions of women harassed accosted sexually abused diminished in the workplaces and universities, say nothing, right? Stumm, that's the word, right? The black or indigenous people throughout the world, underprivilege is just, and none should complain, right? Laws and education can improve these things, and laws and education come to be precisely because people speak up, loudly.

Hi again Catfoot.

Staying long won't bring you harm. wink

And by the way, I didn't comment on anything. I only said that I consider the Aljazeera as a reputable source. That's it. I guess that would be considered hijacking, no? If yes, oh well.. laugh
Oh dear, no. I don't delete comments. Unless if it presents the risk of the blog being deleted. Or if it insults another entity her on our blogs.thumbs up wave
It's not a matter of giving up bro, it's rather a matter of applying my time in better ways. I'm old now and I no longer have the energy for hargy bargy on the site.help wave
Oh but I do blame them for it. The did not bother to stop the Taliban when the USA withdrew. The just folded without a proper fight. Just as the Palestinians embraced Hamas iso blocking them.frustrated wave
The thing is that racism an enslavement is nothing new. The Bible tells us how slaves should be treated and how their ears should be pierced if he does not want to take his freedom. Plenty of discrimination in our past. Although legislation forbids it, racism runs rive in our world and slavery is still very much alive. It's in our DNA.blues wave
Hi Kal,
Seen that opinion is not based on fact and only rest on personal feeling I guess you are entitled to an opinion.rolling on the floor laughing

But jokes aside, how are you?hug
Hi ya Bob

Good to see ya
Been Along time
hug
