Launched very recently (either that or I've missed it till now), Google Earth now allows us to explore the red planet, with its giant craters, it's red deserts and it's wierd features.
Somewehere on there (fingers crossed) there might be an image of some unsuspecting Martian putting out their washing...totally oblivious to the billions of potential Earthlings waving to them from the safety of their computers millions of miles away.
Well...so far I haven't come across such an image...and scientists say that this might be unlikely (but damnnit I've had a look anyways).
I've also failed to come accross the remains of Beagle 2 - that tragic and (relatively cheap) space probe that was launched toward Mars using on a shoe-string budget of 'shopping trolley and ramp'.
But there is ONE astonishing thing that I DID notice about the red planet, using Google Mars...it is the only place I have thusfar explored that does NOT contain a chain of Starbucks or McDonalds. ...what an achievment.
so...any thoughts? Do you think Googler's will find evidence of life before NASA does?
Ps...wasn't sure which forum category to put this in as I couldn't find a 'Science' one

You will never get such a clear picture of Mars because the images on Google Earth are not entirely from satalite. It gets to a point and then the images are merged very carefully to pics taken by overhead aircraft. They had someone on television recently explaining the process. I was gutted! Up till then I was so impressed with satalite pics.
