Jesus is so important that He is a time mark all over the globe... we count the years before and after His birth.
If you are interested in exploring the life and teachings of Jesus, besides reading the Bible, which might be too complicated a language for a beginner (even non-beginners like me need help to understand the Bible, it's written in figurative language, parables etc), you could search that on the web and join discussion groups. So much has been written about Him not only in the Bible, there are so many different interpretations depending on the religion... In my view there is a canyon between what different religions teach about Jesus and personal experience. I was christened in a catholic church but don't go to church or lead my life according to it. To me Jesus is really a personal experience, a role model, an ethical, moral inspiration to me, as His life represented His words and He lived to teach Love - one of the most (if not the most) consistent human ever AND a Divine being, two in one. Although now He only lives in spirit, He is my best friend. I rely on Him to make small and big decisions in my life because I feel that He will always have the right action. Yes, we have our free will and I deliberately try to follow Jesus. He can be your friend too but that is up to you.

why not just read it yourself? People can tell you their own interpretation of what the Bible says...read it and glean what you will!! Ask 20 people what the Bible says...and you will get 20 different answers! Read it!!

I have read several versions and they are all essentially the same... the wording is different but the message the same.. this is mainly in order to make it more accessible to people ...the King James version is soooo difficult to remain focused on....
Jesus is the living carnation of God...his living flesh to be sacrificed for our sins... the reason he was sacrificed is because of all the broken covenants between God and his 'people' (Isreal - Jewish people) that came before him. Because of Gods holiness he could not 'mend' his relationship with us without replacing the old with a new covenant.... jesus is the new covenant and because of him, we can have a personal relationship with God..
He was prophesised about many centuries before his coming and he performed many great miracles.... and unlike many 'Messiah' claiming individuals before him he was humble and particularly interested in the sick, the rejected and the hated in society.... he never profited in any way from his life, and in fact suffered greatly for his cause...

He's different from Mohammad in the sense that we can’t know conclusively if he actually lived or not. He never wrote anything down himself and everything written about him in the NT was documented some 60 years after his alleged crucifixion. So when you are reading this, you have to keep in mind that it is hearsay. He’s an interesting character (real or fictionalized) however and highly controversial and sometimes he gave conflicting messages that are subject to the interpretation of the individual. It’s best to read the bible for yourself and reach your own conclusions.
