nfowler: Do you really want an intellectual significant other?
ORWould you pefer someone that thinks a little less about social life?
I would like a man who can at least hold his own while having a good conversation...I like to talk a lot about anything under the sun...soooooooo he doesn't have to be intellectual as much as a good conversationalist...I myself am not much good with small talk...I'm more subject oriented...or just like to have a good laugh....
I have always been attracted to a sharp mind, but I don't go for the snooty intellectual snob type....just someone who is intelligent and with whom I can engage in conversation on a variety of topics. I particularly enjoy learning from people who don't know they're teaching me, if that makes sense to you.
I just want someone that likes having a conversation about things and doesn't get bent all out of shape if you see something different than him. So someone easy going with life and willing to talk and share their thoughts on anything .
Life is a lesson. I have always enjoyed conversations with the intellect's. The stimulation is great for the brain. I will never tolerate superiority over me. I have dated men who have genius IQ's, but they also understand their shortcomings. There is always balance. I have always asked questions and always enjoyed learning.

I'm with you. I have had the 'bent out of shape' experiences. It tends to make you keep your mouth shut about everything, like walking on egg shells. Perhaps that is why I am in the forums now. At least I don't have to endure the silence and dirty looks.
For me, it is a REAL turn on to have an intellectual discussion with my partner, disagree/agree, its all stimulating.
And if you disagree, well, the making up afterwards is sizzzling...
A man's intellect - and I dont mean college diplomas, and exam results, I mean the ability to discuss lots of topics and to be well up with current events etc, is a real plus for me..
I hear ya g/f....and intense heated debate is even better..PRRRRRRRRRRRR......
A man's mind comes first with me. Intellectual, sarcastic, witty, sharp, interesting, complex, able to hold a conversation, able to start a conversation.
Polarbutterfly: "Not necessarily,I like the strong silent type... and, someone who can at least lift me off of the floor and into his arms every now and then...".
You could get one of those chairs for elderly people that raise up for that.

Exactly...I prefer someone who can have intelligent conversation, but is down to earth, not the intellectual snob type. Actually, not the snob type at all. I'm too earthy for that.
Yes. But that's not to say every minute of every hour spent together is in serious pursuit of intellectual debate. But, if you can't speak with some authority on issues of importance to each person, then someone may seek "stimulation" elsewhere.
