I am not scared. I ask and have gotten turned down, just like guys do. It has made me more aware of how a guy must feel when he is turned down.

In response to: make the first contact with someone on this site? Why?

I make first contact all the time on here. It is sad when they don't reply and even sadder when they reply with something mean to say...but o well.

At least I found out really early on that they were a jerk and didn't need to waste my time.

I've been dating again for almost a year now and I'm finding that most men are shy these days and are waiting for the woman to make the first move. I will say it's get exhausting if I'm putting forth all the effort and getting little to none in return.

Big_John: Well here is a man waiting for ya'll you contact him first. Most women are waiting for a man to contact them first. What to do? What to do? It is a wonder we ever find someone.... what do you do? Contact or wait to be contacted?

I've contacted first before with great results. Though in RL i would wait for the man to contact me first.

John..I can't believe I never sent you a flower..bouquet

Personally, I do make a first contact once in a while but generally I like and probably respond better if I'm contacted first.

I'm a little old school that way~ angel

I'm not scared and I have made 1st contact but it seems that when I do make first contact with someone that I find interesting I get nothing, nada, zip...and it really pisses me off that I can't at least get a note back or something back that says, sorry not interested, your not what I'm looking for, you smoke, your black, your too fat....any friggin thing.....grrr...very mad

So now I say screw it I'm tired of hitting my head on a brick wall.....frustrated their lost but I love the forums so I come back for those.....grin

There does seem to be two separate set of rules; one for the internet dating environment and one that still applies in real life. I wonder why?

If you read back through this Thread you will find you are like a majority of ladies who sit back and wait for 'the man' to contact you first. There are 1,000's of people on the dating sites. Most are shy and don't contact first. The worst that can happen is nothing happens if you make the first move. My suggestion: do a search and find the men that you find interesting and fire off flowers, eCards or a simple message and say hello. One might return a message to you. Invite me to the wedding. I will come.

I've made the first move already. Usually, I'll just send them a flower with a few words. If they don't respond, so be it. But at least I can't say I never tried. wine

Rejection can cause all of us to lose hope. Don't let this happen. Remember Edison tried over 10,000 versions of the light bulb before he found the one we use today. That means he failed 9,999 times. He contacting those guys you are interested in. Fail and fail and fail... the next one might be the 'right one'. Good luck.

I'm not real sure John. Maybe it's easier to get to know someone thru here...decide if you like what you hear and move to the next step. Where as in RL it's more awkward to get to know someone...were they can see your flaws right up front and make decisions before giving a person a real chance.

Sundown40: Awwhhh...English...you're far from ugly dear And surprised your emails not burning up with all those dear ladies contacting you. You're always a gentleman first...and a wonderful tease. Who wouldn't want to contact you. I'd give you a good recommondations letter if asked

Thankyou SunDown, for those very kind words, but my e-mail does burn up with dear ladies contacting me first.... it's a fantastic boost for the ego of an old git like me......

They are all so beautiful, in their twenties and they all say they love meheart wings
They all want to get to know me better and even give me their private mail address, and all they ask in return is a greencard or 10,000 bucks.

I really just don't know which one to choose, but need to soon as the money is running out. sigh

And thankyou for your kind offer of a recommendation letter, this will be so very usefull.

Wedding invites will be sent out as soon as I make up my tiny mind

petalbabe: I dont "pursue" either..not in a predatory way..

But if I see someone I like the look of, I will have no hesitation in sending a flower, or an email..

Life is too damn short to mess about too much..
