bodleing: Aye, it wer reet gradely lass.
and I would love a glass of whyte wyne...

Hilarious, I had to be asked three times what a glass of white wine was.

And when I asked for a glass of Chablis, a woman pulled a bottle from some cellar, blew the dust off it and said, 'I have one here that says shabliss' is this it?
Too funny.

Secret, it is not from the back of the throat, it is from the roof of the mouth.

I can now, because I was taught French and also as a young un, it was easier to change my vocal chords.

ooby_dooby: How did this simple word ever become so corrupted? The word grocery is pronounced
grow-sir-eee not
grow-sher-eee!

There is no H in grocery!

I sometimes even hear announcers on TV saying groshery. This raises my blood pressure so high I want to throw a shoe at the TV.

There now I feel better. Thank you for listening. Tomorrow I'll talk about "ofTen" followed by "nucular" and "toung".

How picky can you get!! We used to go to the grosher store and get a baaaaag of grosherys. You'd die of hearing if you ever come the New York.

I've recently been corrected for saying bologna instead of bologney. When I pointed out that there's an A at the end, not a Y, they quieted down. roll eyes

There are many words that I avoid because I know I can't say them. Life deals us cards from a strange deck sometimes. I believe it is important to know your strong points and your weaknesses. I know this is one of my weak areas.

Generally I'm not very picky but this particular word grates on me.
Just to inform you it so happens I was born & raised in NYC and I've heard a lot of destructions of the English language that's for sure. Big John is right about the south though. Maybe I'll write a book about it one day.laugh
