the treaty of lisbon will effect certian changes to the functioning of the european union. In ireland the treaty of lisbon can only be ratified if an amendment of the consitution is approved by referndum. You will be asked wheather or not you approve of the twenty-eight amendment of the consitution (lisbon treaty) bill 2009 which propse to amend and update the provisions of the consitution relating to irelands membership of the european union. the proposed amendment would

(a)affrim irelands commitment to the european union.

(B) enable ireland to ratify the treaty of lisbon and be a member of the european union established by that treaty

(C) update the provisions of the consitution that will ensure legal comptibility between irish law and the law of the european union.

(D) allow ireland to agree to certain measures under the treaties being amended by the treaty of lisbon, subject to prior approvel of both houses of the oireachtas

(e) restate the prohibition on ireland joining any european union common defence arrangement

Just because you say it doesn't mean it is true!

Were you hoodwinked? I wasn't. I read the stuff and voted. I don't see anything here to be afraid of.

Vote YES and support a Europe that has always treated us well and as an equal.

We voted NO the last time and were ignored. That just about says it all about Europe's attitude to Ireland.

Does it indeed.....we were told a load of lies by vested interests to encourage us to vote no the last time. We were not ignored. Europe was just (rightly) horrified by our selfishness and dismayed by our daft reasons for it.

Lots of people in this country seem to think that our prosperity came from ourselves alone. Without EU membership we would still be stuck in the 1950s

Exactly. We would have no roads, schools, hospitals etc. They are/were built and maintained with EU money.

Trade agreements were made, markets opened up to enable us to export all over the world, and create jobs, because of our membership of the EU.

And while our economy may be in a bad mess of our own doing I can go to France and Germany and spend my euro and it is worth as much as the Euro of a richer country.

A very good example of how external markets are vital for us can be shown in looking at our "Trade war" with the UK in the bad days of Dev and how it crippled us as a nation.
