StephanieH: That's why common sense applies. It's one thing to generalize for sake of an argument or a statistic debate if you will ( in this case using accurate data )and other completely different thing to generalize because of prejudice and/or ignorance ( as we see most often) And the second kind of generalization often brings to wrong absurd informations as it's the case.

Debate 101... divide and conquer...so now there are 2 types of generalizations...careful...if you make up any more you might be inclined to generalize about generalizations...rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

MrAngel: As predicted,of course. Speaking honestly is not being a bully though. I'm sure you can imagine just how much my self esteem is suffering. Perhaps you should take a page from kanokwan's book and realize that your values are not representative of all the women of the world.

Oh and I guess you always speak 'honestly Govenor' roll eyes

Honesty is someone who doesn't lie or deceive themselves. I Love the way men come on here with their buckets of tar and their brush tucked safely under their arm ready to paint the whole town a yucky bitter grey colour because of their past rejections of forthright, assertive women

Would you like a trolley in case it gets too heavy for you? I'll throw in a bucket load of esteem too. I'm nice like that grin

Lee464: So who is the ignorant in that scenario?

You of course. Considering that you are generalizing the group of people who generalizes.

morgan5: she asked a question that i found funny.

You mean that you agreed with her and were amused by what she said. It's ok morgan, being defensive is an expected reaction. I wasn't aiming my words at you directly, but to say that a lot of western women, especially older ones,do harbour hostility towards relationships involving asian women and older western men,or any western or caucasian men for that matter. That is common knowledge.

StephanieH: Certainly, therefore the whole concept of generalization is stupid if you consider your own words. Why generalize at first place if that's not what you mean?

So it's quite the contrary, people favouring the use of generalizations "Could" not be able to summon a more creative point.

You are not creating creative points here...you are simply twisting words and deflecting...you do it well but then you are a western woman...rolling on the floor laughing

People generally generalize out of convenience. stop and think about a conversation without them...I have and it's just not worth it...

Honestly i didn't agree or disagree with her it amused me coming from an Asian lady.

I really don't care about mixed relationships or the age thing my ex husband was 15 yrs older than me, and i was in a 4 yr relationship with a Turkish man, so i clearly have no issues with it.

I never said that you didn't provide amusement though. I was simply responding to the woman who posted this thread. You keep mentioning esteem. I believe that may well be what is known in psychology as a Projection. Which is to apply what is in your own mind about yourself to another, thereby venting yourself onto someone else. You may want to address your own self esteem issues. You are the one who seems eager to do the tarring for your own graying reasons.wink laugh

I'm simply mirroring your own analogy.

Lee464: People generally generalize out of convenience. stop and think about a conversation without them...I have and it's just not worth it...

Comes back to our mails a page ago: 2 kinds of generalizations, one for the sake of debates and a positive outcome when all parts will learn something, and the second when it happens by pure laziness or ignorance.
Now, aren't you able to have a conversation without the second or the first? wink
Don't make me imagining you as a gentleman restricted to "all apples are blue" kind of systems. Would be quite limiting.

I like you...you are fun.cheers

All I'm saying is that it's a hell of a lot easier and more functional(within the context of conversing) to use generalizations...simply because everyone should know that it's impossible to include every single person in any group...so back to your "common sense".

The only valid reason to call someone on a generalization is when one has little else to contribute to defending their point.

But you know this...you just enjoy arguing...like me.laugh cheers

Didi2009: I heard lot of western men ( never heard women ) like “Asian woman” to be their wife or maybe only lover…
It is ok with that…
But is that really mean “ All Asian Woman” from Arab, China , India to Indonesia… and all age of them …
Or only Young uneducated, un-experience Asian woman that they think , can be dominated by old western man who lost they self esteem…….

There's no single Western man whether young or old that can dominate a Thai woman. I've been here long enough to know that much.
