it looks as though we could be in danger of being called a rasist country again. we are in the prosses of turning away a lot more boat people and some of them are on a starvation protest and refuse to eat until they are allowed into this country. they say that they are from war torn third world countries where they were forced to live in abject poverty and very bad conditions, yet they can afford the high prices that the people smugglers demand. i often wondered considering their backgrounds, how they can come up with the $15000 per head to make this trip. ?????? i do feel very deeply for the genuine refugees, but i often wonder just how genuine some of these people are. what do you think. dunno dunno

wave such a difficult issue dunno I agree with you about having empathy for genuine refugees. I personally feel that first world countries are in a position (and have a responsibility) to assist people who are fleeing oppressive regimes, civil wars and sub-standard living conditions.
On the subject of those attempting entry into countries by paying high prices to people smugglers .. well I can only think that they are trying to fast-track immigration processes. I'm not remotely knowledgeable on this topic, but would this situation come about due to the difficulty of gaining passports and the other documents necessary to exit one country and enter another dunno

thumbs up

The only problem being that in most countries that are conflict torn do not have any connecting embassies to get proper documentation.

I believe if we can set up a proper refugee headquarters on xmas island, and get them to help build infrastructure or get educated there, and after two years, including mandatory patrioticisation, then allowed into the mainland.
