alina18: Do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing to encourage teenagers to be free thinkers? Why?
Free thinkers as in being able to think for themselves and make decisions on their own? I always encouraged mine when they were teens to form their own decisions based on the facts that they had in hand and not to follow the herd mentality.
crotalus_p: Of course it is a good thing free thinking is essential for progression
Agree. No progress has ever been made by those who maintain the status quo; rather, progess is made by those who rock the boat. It can be difficult to see things in fresh ways, or to put ideas into a perspective other than the one we first learned. I wish I were better at this myself.
It is a good thing if there is an original thought instead of rehashing the same ideas and old thoughts without going beyond the concept when it was first thought and just thwarting the progression of human thoughting...
to encourage your teenager to think for themselves and experience for themselves is essential to becoming a healthy adult
there is only so much as a parent you can do for your children-you teach them morals and values right from wrong and respect and hope they understand that so that when they are teenagers they can learn and make decisions based on their OWN knowledge and not something the media has embedded in their brain
