So Now Banks Increase The Minimum Balance (12)
AsleepInNJCherry Hill, New Jersey USA53 Threads 3 Polls 2,862 Postswithout letting us know then charge a maintenance fee? Funny how this happens at the same time the new overdraft rules go into affect. I closed one account last week and I'm closing a bank of america account this week as well after the minimum balance went from no minimum to $5,000!

I'm with BofA and I live overseas, so I hadn't heard about this yet. Is this a combined total of all assets that you are referring to, or will there be fees if just your checking account is under $5000? I have money with Bank of America in different accounts, but my checking account is generally under $5000, as I move money around.

NJ, you must have had an interest checking acct. The min bal is $10,000 if you fall below that they charge a fee of $25 per month. The thing you should have done is go to the bank and tell them to remove the fee from your acct and switch to a non-interest checking acct which has no min balance. They will remove the fee if you threaten to close the acct otherwise, I promise you. Getting pissed off serves no purpose, use your clout instead, that would be the SMART thing to do.
