These people remind me of my chickens. If one of them gets mauled by a dog (has happened a few times) and the chicken is fortunate to survive, I have to separate it from the rest of the flock for its own safety because the other chickens will sense that it's injured and they will peck it to death.

Instead of dissing poor people as lazy drug abusers and alcoholics maybe have a little human compassion for their plight.

I had a neighbor who fits into the catagory of working poor, nice couple, good people with 2 daughters 5 & 12 he worked as a loader operator for a lumber mill, she was disabled. With the housing crash they cut him to 30 hours a week because the demand for 2X4's etc fell to near zero. neither of them drink or do drugs, they can't afford it. They are lucky to be able to feed their kids. I've seen the inside of their fridge it was pathetic to say the least. They eat mostly canned yams, pinto beans, and black eyed peas they get from the food bank. I give them out of date bread I buy in bulk from the outlet store for my chickens. They don't play with race cars or eat at nice restaurants, McDonalds is a treat for the kids they have to ration. They can't even afford to buy gas beyond what is essential to get him back & forth to work.

Yet....They get solicitations for debit cards with a $300 limit at a fee of $95.00. They get flyers fron payday loan and check cashing places. They get mail from fly by night car insurance agents who stress "bad credit specialists". I never get these mailings. I don't get them because I'm not targeted like they are.

Well, I was so shocked by the site I posted in my opening post I had to peruse that site and the more I read esp in their forums the more I started to doubt it was for real. I drilled deep into the site but not til I got to the "JOIN" page did I learn the truth. Here is what it said:

ooby_dooby: I never thought something like this actually existed. An organization dedicated to targeting and maximizing profits from poor people, minorities, and our armed forces.

Yes indeed.

They not only exist they are the norm rather than the exception.
They even manipulate humanitarian movements to reduce their own costs and maximize profits.

It is indeed unfortunate that people are victimized by predators of any type, but in many instances, the cause is personal choices.
The first 9 years after I got out of school, I spent saving enough money to pay for my homestead. I had no children and never got married until that was accomplished. As soon as my son was born, I started putting money aside for his education to make sure the money was there when it was needed. I never did pay a lot of money to a lender because I did not buy most things until I had the money to pay for them.
Now, why should I be asked to pay through taxes and fees for those who have not planned ahead? Many of these so called poor and disadvantaged have most likely made more take home pay than I have over the last 30 years. The most I ever made in a year has been $28,500 of taxable income, which figures out to $14.25 per hour, plus I pay my own health insurance and I do not consider myself poor or disadvantaged.

Somewhere along the way someone or some situation taught you the value of a buck and how to keep from squandering it on foolishness. You are clearly one of the smart ones. The only thing about you that is out of character is the fact that you smoke. That doesn't fit your MO at all. You and I are a lot alike when it comes to matters of money. If everybody was like us there would be no trade deficit or national debt or credit card debt. Unfortunately, our school system and indeed our culture fails miserably at teaching young people the skills they need to manage money and avoid the pitfalls that a majority of people today get themselves into.
