For the same reason that they haven't banned cigarettes altogether. Money! And of course in a nation of heavy drinkers, it would be political suicide.

They are considering making alcohol distributers print a warning on the product. I think it boild down to the fact that tobacco IS addictive and alcohol only CAN be addictive. If you somke you will become addicted but only a small percentage of drinkers become addicted. I am not saying this is right i am just stating their excuse.
dunno

true but in a nation that is recognised as consuming large amounts of alcohol maybe its time they did put warnings on bottles etc .if only for the younger generation teens etc (probably wont make a bit of difference though)

Personally i think they should have warning labels and we should start educating kids from an early age about drugs, tobacco and alcohol. It's the Irish attitude to drinking that has to change to make a difference though and i can't see that happening for the foreseeable future.
dunno

.i know people who get drunk on two beers and others on 22!!

he was refused because he was told he had to be off beer for 6 months before he was reacessed but in the meantime whilst in hospital he got out of bed and went to the pub for a pint

not sure whether hes alive or not

i havent got the stats but id say as many people die from drink as tabacco
you make a good point
less people die from heroin/ecstacy/coke than than alchohol or smoking
it just doesnt make sense ,plenty of beer companies sponsor sporting events too which is crazy
