So does the US these days... what's your point? Almost every intersection in Texas has camera's mounted atop the stop lights (and I'm not talking about the red-light revenue generators that are going up now also). The local governmnents have cameras atop light poles watching the streets, cameras atop buildings watching the streets, and at apparrently every intersection... and of course now they're putting red light cameras up to generate more revenue right and left!
Finally every business has cameras watching you, in the stores and in the parking lots. Cameras cameras everywhere! Most teenagers today don't know a world without cameras watching their every move at Walmart.
It's literally the book "1984" coming to pass just a little later than the author had thought.
Every day I like the societys we live in less and less.
bay163: ok you can get a five thousand deductable and save money, also a medical savings account, depending on your situation, the good thing about blue cross is , for example you dont meet your deductable and the bill is 1,000 but since you went to a blue cross provider they discount it for example to 450 and then you save even though you didnt meet your deductable, but each state has different policies, i am in california
I have only ever met the deductable once since 1987, but you are right, they do give you a discount, particularly if you pay the deductable on the spot.

I am not sure what my brother pays as he is using Blue Cross but he tells me he saves thousands of dollars. Myself I am covered fully by the military for the rest of my life, so I am fortunate that I don't have to deal with this issue. Just wish I could find a military doctor close to me; they took the time to properly diagonse you.
There is very little difference between the left and right politicians in the UK these days. Difficult to distinguish what either party really stand for. Back in the 80's there was a definate line between the two. Labour and Conservative policies are that close in many ways it is all about who can score the most votes. Just appeasing the people nowadays.

What it boils down to for the individual is whether you want to be in control of your own life or if you want to give that control over to the government.

Neither get my vote and never will. My life is not ruled by politics and never will be. Though I do object to alot. I campaigned for the release of Nelson Mandela when I was in my early teens. Outside the south african embassy in Trafalgar Square London, political yes but definately worth while because the end result was positive.
Universal Health Care is a great idea. But, Congress is so corrupt and stupid, they write a thousand page proposal, that doesn't do much, that nobody reads, and really doesn't make much a difference. Lobbyist are FAR too powerful in this country, and law making in the US has become a joke...
