I had a date, meeting at the Fontana di Trevi. A table booked at Archetto. She cancelled at the last moment. What to do? Should I stand around in the square, inviting a passerby to supper? Should I pay the owner, so a waitress can dine with me? Do I dine alone?...What have you done in this situation? Ever been stood up?

dunno confused

Yep, Im not too proud to say I have been - once..very mad

I was left sitting in a pub like an idiot. It wasnt so much that he changed his mind, it was the fact he sent me a text (coward) when I was actually sitting there waiting for him..

What a gentleman..roll eyes

Yep, and I keep a book in my car just for such occasions. I would dine alone and watch others, and enjoy myself...especially in such a beautiful location.

I have gone on with my plans in the past when this has happened, not worrying about being alone. wine

Yes, but I like my company and good food. Was a little pissed but thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and had a nice evening.

That's a hurdle I still have to jump....dining alone. Frankly, I can't see myself enjoying the meal. But you are right. Maybe I should take a good book. But I simply can't imagine myself sitting in a crowded restaurant, eating and reading a book, with conversation all around me. blushing doh

Well, to be honest, I haven't been stood up. She cancelled at the very last moment.

Yes it's happened to me several times. Go ahead and order something if you're hungry, eat pay and leave. Don't make any more dates with that woman! She's a waste of your time and money. very mad

Unless there's a damned good excuse like somebody died perhaps, then there is no good reason for you to be stood up like that (and they better be able to give you the name of the deceased person and you should be able to find that name in the obituaries!).

Regards!

There is a point at which cancelling at THE LITERAL LAST MOMENT is akin to getting stood up... if you're already at the restaurant waiting for her when she calls your cell to cancel, then yeah you been stood-up IMHO.

It's better than that. She's a Duchess, and she's slightly eccentric. Memory lapses, delusional. Basically she's nuts. But extremely attractive, and interesting company, when she can remember your name!! wow doh

Don't feel stupid... you probably had a better time eating popcorn.. ! It is so rude & bad mannered to do that to anyone... A guy I arranged to meet a good while ago for lunch apparently "fell asleep"..... ?? How's that for an excuse..... and he's still emailing me (oh dear, lol etc.).....

Wow, Fontana di Trevi that's a very romantic place, I've been there before! If she cancelled when you're there already maybe she was there already and she saw you and she didn't like what she saw. dunno but that was really rude.

I have been stood up too. I was about to meet this guy at Starbucks at 7pm. He said he'll call me when he get there. I thought he was there already because I arrived after 7pm and he wasn't there and he didn't even call me. very mad I told him to call me if something came up. I don't have his number so I can't call him. I didn't stay there, I don't want to wait so I just went home. When I got home I sent him an offline message. The following morning he replied to my message saying he fell asleep and woke up 9pm and he lost my number that's why he can't call me!What an idiot.devil

Yes, wow I had overlooked the fact it was the Trevi Fountain ... in that case I wouldn't have minded getting stood up there .... I think you should have just had a few glasses of red and sang "Three Coins In A Fountain" - always wanted to do that....
