Have been watching a programme about Surrogacy and how in India these clinics are growing as IVF and adoption in many countries is either very expensive, or so much red tape its out of the question for many.

The biological Mothers are vetted, they are married women with children. They are paid approx 5,000 pounds obviously alot of money in India, and it enables them to provide a better life for there family, whilst helping a childless couple.

As a Mother , I cannot imagine my life with out my children and if I had not been able to have them myself, feel sure I would have explored all possibilities. Also my Son and his partner have lost 2 babies so I have seen the pain it causes.

Interested in what you think.

Please play nice folks wine

I think adoption is a much better answer to both childlessness, and btw, immigration as well. 50% of all families in the west should be required to adopt a baby (or babies) from the third world. This way, no family would be childless, and the west would not suffer declining population numbers, tax revenues, and faltering pension schemes as now. By raising brown babies as their own, integration would be a given, and a mixing of the genes would follow. However, every family in the Third World who gives up a child for adoption, forfeits the right to immigrate themselves to a western country. Call it social engineering if you like. grin

I think thats wonderful, having seen the pain with my Son and his partner.

The programme i watched really got me thinking, admittedly these women were going to be paid, but they were giving so much joy to a childless couple, and would be able to give their own children a much better chance in life, in a country with so much poverty.

I really don't feel we should judge hug bouquet

Alwaysplayfair: I have placed a child for adoption and I think it is wonderful I understand though that there can be a lot of money in surrogacy but I dont know if I could do it or noti guess it would take a lot of meeting and knowing the people whos child I would be carrying.

If I felt comfortable enough as pregnancy comes pretty easy to me I may consider it over here if you list in a paper you are looking to be a surrogate and you place the ad in Miami or Tampa area you are sure to get close to $40K with certain people. I was offered but couldn't do it It is a woman's very personal choice to carry someone else's baby and not one I would make lightly
One of the points bought up in the programme was the cost of IVF and the cost of Surrogacy in many Western countries is out of reach for many, hence going to poorer countries.

Agree, it is a business to some and they make money but it also bought so much joy to the people involved bouquet

Alwaysplayfair: absolutely no doubt about the joy part dear.I have not met a couple who regretted adoption or the money spent and yes IVF and adoption is outrageously expensiveit costs more than raising a child and in America I know many prospective parents go through the ringer emotionally because the women have up until the baby is born to change their mindsi think it is great for some not for others--if it was strictly for money i wouldnt do if it was in order to make another couple as happy as i am raising my son i may consider it

I know that there is trafficking of children and is spread in the world. Do you think that this human act Aoakhlaki. Yes, there are people Ibon their children in the Third World or anywhere in the world. Because of the need for money or to change the standard of living they have. What I think when parents are planning to have children must first be prepared to take responsibility and do not display these children for sale. Whatever the circumstances of life they are experiencing tough. (Parents who are raising their children, not just those who Iserfon them). What is the fault of this child be deprived of the simplest right of a father and a mother because of the need !!!!!!!!!!!!!!professor

I'm all for it.

Only had my first child at 38. Would have donated eggs with pleasure while I still had them of course or even carried a child for someone else.

Years ago a mother made the headlines here for a long time. She carried her daughter's babies.

thumbs up

Hi Morgan, I think surrogacy in some cases is a good thing but only if a contract is written where the surrogate mother has no option to keep the child for herself.

Too many times the surrogate mother changes her mind after the birth and the hopeful parents are not only out of money but without child once again.
