thumbs up I agree a waste of paper, and a waste of a stamp, or a waste of someones time sending out e-mails, when they could be doing more productive work.

I sent 3k to them, and only about 5% of the money acyually gets to the cause, the rest goes into the big-boys pockets and into running the business. Why do you think Bill Gates is setting up his own trust when he dies? So that all the money can get to the cause. 1 thank you letter in 3 years aint so much to ask for in my opinion. Glad i stopped

Wow, those facts are discusting.....so you decided to pay the big boys €2850, seems pretty stupid to me, why not just piss it up again a wall yourself and then give €150 to a homeless person.

Not sure which charity youre talkin bout here.....sure,theres a hell of a difference in the way they operate...personally think Unicef could be more efficient..too much wasted in admin and promotion....chose Concern as I have mates who work for em at da coal face and coz they are very cost efficient....

Theres used to be nites out, organised by two diff dating sites here in Dublin...usually at the hotel there in Nassau St.....and the proceeds of the nite went to charity.....not the poshest of venues but we'd have the room to ourselves and it waz well organised...but it waz the hard work of a dedicated few that kept it goin....cheers

I would get over that, but the fact only a small percentage of the money goes the cause, what exactly is the point? dunno I can think of far better places to give it in our own country..

How money is spent
relief n development 87%
fundraisin 9%
governance 1%
education 3%

You have a point.....Mother Theresa often responded to people who wanted to travel n help her in India, by saying...save your airfare and help at home. Did you know her org has offices here and work with the needy in Ireland?

Charity does begin at home......and all things are relative..but a child dying every couple of seconds is a hard thing to ignore....I cope by givin to concern and barnados...

I think thats urban myth that only a small precentage reaches your chosen charity. . Think about it they wouldn't be allowed to continue taking donations if the money wasn't going where it's supposed, if for instance you were paying somebody 20euro a month to put it on the lotto and you found out wouldn't you like everyone just stop giving that person the money. . . . Urban myth IMO!

As far as im concerned, i was told by an intelligent man that when the money is given to lets say for example the Ethiopian government, it is in their hands to distribute the money and very little goes to the cause. That is what i have gathered

What can be hard to understand is that so many countries are in such a state of chasis, that money does have to be paid to sweeten up certain people ..say to speed up getting your trucks of food thru a checkpoint .....the world can be a very nasty place and it is only when you see first hand, how bribery and backhanders are a very common part of everyday life for many ordinary people in poorer countries, that You truly get a real sense of the injustice.....very mad

Money donated from one country to another is the only money that is every given to a government. . Money donated to a charity is given to that charity and it is then handle by only those responsible for that charity the government has no say as to how or where the money is spent. . I think you should have researched it before you donated all that money. .
