On Sunday I watched my youngest child board a Cessna and lay on my back in the grass waiting for the plane to spiral above the airfield til they reached 12,500 feet... then caught sight of a tiny, tiny, blip as she stepped out into the open air and went into freefall. Held my breath til the canopy opened and watched her sail to earth.
Wow. Her first jump (tandem, but still GREAT!) and my inspiration. Anybody want to skydive???
Have, many times - my chute is packed but has been retired since my jumpmaster bounced. If you're looking to jump, make sure you're with one that's logged more than 200 jumps, and carries JM2 certification.

Wow - so sorry to hear that. Her tandem master logged 1373 with her jump and I was very comfortable with his answers to my worries as a mom. As the day went on I really started to picture myself jumping too. I'm not sure what JM2 is - ?

I'm scared of heights, but a small plane is different - like a taxi with wings and you can talk to the pilot and see he's in control. I can't climb a ladder to string Christmas lights or climb on the roof either.
class of jumpmaster, you have JM1 and 2, 2 comes with extra responsibilities and more knowledge along with more jumps in all sorts of conditions. 1373 is more than enough for one to feel safe with. Tandem is a good way to go when you're first starting, and is the only way they'll allow you to in 99.5% of most cases unless you're a jump veteran.

I know they only have 3 staffers qualified to train new jumpers and this guy was one of them. Everone was super nice, very patient, very knowledgeable. It was an awesome afternoon for her and for me, and I know she wants to train for a solo jump. I'd love to try tandem, just once would be perfect for me.
- small operation west of Toronto, just outside Hamilton, Ontario. IADs jump from 3,500 ft. Maddy, going tandem, had a choice of 10,000 or 12,500. I'm not sure what is meant by a 3k set.
Mis-used the word 'set' in my statement, sorry for the confusion. I wasn't sure if it was 3000 or 3500, and if that was a 'set' height, or they got a choice.
realy i would love to learn to skydive....... i think it would be a one of a kind rush wooooo hooooooo...... hey also specialy if ya did it in th buff lol j/k
