It really depends on the desired outcome, if you ask me. Now, the internet, cell phones, are very, very useful, but I still find real letters and cards sent through real post offices to be neat, sweet, and considerate, if not a little nostalgic. We have become placid, lazy--almost everyone I know really loves to get a letter or card that isn't a bill! You know, life isn't THAT bad that we can't do this. So my vote would be for taking a little time and giving creatively when communicating. Or, if it's a close and loved friend, then do, in fact go visit in person.
