Eamonn Lillis was sentenced to 6 and a half years for killing his wife, he will probably be out in five,, I think this is a bit of a soft sentence, ok she wasnt the sweetest soul in the world and she didnt treat him the best but if he wasnt happy he could have walked away from the relationship rather than kill her and the taking of a life deserves more than five years in jail. What are peoples views on this?

Murder is murder in my opinion.
The fact he was charged with manslaughter alone was a disgrace, afterall he beat her with a brick over the head.

He deserves life in jail, i bet he is one happy man!!

Joke of a country this, cant wait for the day i get my ticket out of it. very mad

Yeah this country is a joke but it is like any other country money talks..
I bet if it was me or u that was getting charged for the same case It would of been murder and a longer sentence..

I think we should take the death penalty in this country..
If u take some1's life I dont think you deserve to keep yours..

It is a joke, the laws of the land are crazy, if you get caught drink driving you got 2 years, which can be like prison in a way.
It is not suprising the amount of crime we have, people aint afraid of prison anymore, friend told me other day,, when you get to 60 and if you struggling with things,, rob a bank,, if you get caught you get few years rent free and learn trade inside,, if you dont get caught, then go abroad and but holiday home,, this place is a joke, but its the government decide how its run..scold scold scold

robpacciani: How cant you blame him?
He murdered his wife.....
You cant disguise that.

I think the point fullirish was making is that despite doing the crime, he did not make the decision on his own sentence. Legal system responsible for that....

paphos: Rob, I don't think anyone in either family will be laughing. It is a tragic situation. Crimes of passion like this carry their own inner life sentence.

You dont think he will be laughing when he knows himself he should be locked up for life???

It was obviously his plan to be rid of his wife as he was having an affair. Clear as day.

As I have been in England for 6/7 months I havent followed this.

When I was home at the weekend tho, I asked someone about it and their opinion was it was a tragic accident and he had no intent to kill her.

Is this possible ?

He made it look tragic and accidental Vinny.
After it happened, he blamed a local person for committing the crime, sayin that it was a burglar that killed her.

He was having an affair at the time, and the cause of death was by beaten over the head with a brick..

But a brick must have accidentally got into his hand and he must have accidentaly hit her on the head several times with it according to some people..

Well, having read some of the background I do not think that was his intention. And clearly that is what the jury decided having heard all the facts....

His life is destroyed either way. He will never live this down. It will hangover him for life.

I understand it was made to look acidental and I understand he was having an affair.

The way it was explained to me was it was an argument/fight that went too far and they fabricated the story together before she died.

Was just wondeing if it was possible is all as I only spoke to one person about it.

I listen to most of it on the radio, I heard that he said they were having a row and he went outside on the deck i think and she followed him out and slipped and hit her head off the ground and when she got up they had another row and he pushed her againts the wall so she hit her head again..

But honestly if ur partner comes out and falls and hits there head off the ground when the got up would u push them into the wall..

I just dont see it happening even if this is true he obviously didnt care wat he did to her..

I understand that he will never live it down, but he can move out of ireland and live abroad and meet some 1 else..

His wife is dead.. her life is over. wat about there daughter.??

And if he really wanted to leave her. why couldnt he left when she was away..

You obviously feel his sentence was fair...
How does anyone know what his intention was, they werent there.
And it doesnt matter what his intention was, he still murdered his wife!

I think we should all go and kill someone for the craic, free steak for 5 years and then back out again.. Lovely stuff
