paphos: Well, not the prison I was in. I do think there are people who's standard of living would improve by being in prison, but in fairness their outside life would need to be fairly drastic. I was in 2 actually, but one was an open prison. So that wasn't so bad. Still they all wanted out!!

The open ones are a little different, I live near one, and was contacted threw a dating site ( not this one) from one of the innmates, I couldnt belive it they had internet access!!! I also have a friend who was in one of the open prisons and he just walked out of it.

RoeDeVinna: Mr Justice Barry White said he at least "had the decency" to call emergency services and attempt to resuscitate his wife. "That is the only decent act you committed on that morning." The judge said Lillis then persisted to lie to gardaí to conceal his own involvement.

“Before you made that call, you took time to change your clothing and hide it in the attic, and concocted this story,” he said referring to a lie about an intruder having attacked his wife. “This account was designed to conceal your own involvement. You even went so far as to point your finger at an innocent man.”

At the Central Criminal Court this morning, Mr Justice Barry White said that, having consulted a number of judgements by the Court of Criminal Appeal, a sentence of 10 years would be appropriate

tgwstw: Sorry, I should have been specific. Was referring to case in Middleton, few years ago.

I remember that case the wee boys name was robert??
It was an accident how he killed him they had a row and he fell hit his head or something like that ??

but yet he still hid the body and helped the family look for him..

Sure wasnt there articles in the paper about him now living over in england..lost lots of weight and had a gf and a whole new life..

I think it is the same case??

Yup indeedy.
I'm not sure about him living in England, I know for sure that he couldn't settle anywhere in Ireland.
Now, in fairness when I saw his appearance during the trial he looked like a man that was battling some demons.
At the same time...... I think his sentence should have been harsher and all evidence should have been made available to the jury, unless some kind of deal was cut.
Such lenient sentencing does not really act as a deterrent.
Now, there will always be crime, sad crimes, horrible ones but I'm pretty sure that people may think twice if they knew a good portion of their lives are going to be taken away.

Hi V.

An accident would be if he did push her during a row and she fell hitting her head, and he then rang the emergency services.

I dont think that hitting a person with a brick can be an accident, it is an intentional act. The jury obviously believed he didnt intend to kill her, but I dont think that means it was an accident.

stanley8m: Eamonn Lillis was sentenced to 6 and a half years for killing his wife, he will probably be out in five,, I think this is a bit of a soft sentence, ok she wasnt the sweetest soul in the world and she didnt treat him the best but if he wasnt happy he could have walked away from the relationship rather than kill her and the taking of a life deserves more than five years in jail. What are peoples views on this?

Well if i ever want to get out of a marraige, i think il get rid of my wife...seem's less hassle than going through a divorce...sure il get less time in prison than a drug dealer...This country rock's!!! banana
