robpacciani: You obviously feel his sentence was fair...
How does anyone know what his intention was, they werent there.
And it doesnt matter what his intention was, he still murdered his wife!

I think we should all go and kill someone for the craic, free steak for 5 years and then back out again.. Lovely stuff

How long do you think 'accidental murderers' should be imprisoned for ?

Not implyin it was an accident.

Nobody will ever know the truth, as there was only two of them there at time, maybe she fell, maybe he battered her dunno none of us where there so its all speculation, and thats what courts were going on, Factprofessor

Rob, I dont want to fall out with you again!! But please stop reading posts and jumping to false conclusions. I never once mentioned whether or not I felt the sentence was fair.

I am a bit fed up also of people who have no experience of prison making comments on what a good life they have in there. I have been in 2 prisons as a visitor and I promise you there were no steak or any good life going on.

stanley8m: Eamonn Lillis was sentenced to 6 and a half years for killing his wife, he will probably be out in five,, I think this is a bit of a soft sentence, ok she wasnt the sweetest soul in the world and she didnt treat him the best but if he wasnt happy he could have walked away from the relationship rather than kill her and the taking of a life deserves more than five years in jail. What are peoples views on this?
its a joke really ,i do 5 years on my back ,for god sake,i just hope that theres someone waiting for him with a brick when he walks out them gatespeace

I have been to prison several times as a matter of fact..
And i can assure you, prisoners in Ireland are the best treated in the world by a wide margin..

thumbs up

I personally think that the Jury knows a lot more about this case than anyone here does, and everything here is just opinion.

Either way its a tragic and sad case for 2 families and their friends.

sad flower

RoeDeVinna: I listen to most of it on the radio, I heard that he said they were having a row and he went outside on the deck i think and she followed him out and slipped and hit her head off the ground and when she got up they had another row and he pushed her againts the wall so she hit her head again..

But honestly if ur partner comes out and falls and hits there head off the ground when the got up would u push them into the wall..

I just dont see it happening even if this is true he obviously didnt care wat he did to her..

I understand that he will never live it down, but he can move out of ireland and live abroad and meet some 1 else..

His wife is dead.. her life is over. wat about there daughter.??

And if he really wanted to leave her. why couldnt he left when she was away..

Well I was referring to the inner torment I think someone who did this would suffer really. Even if he moved to the outer regions of inner Mongolia.

Of course we will never know the truth for sure. But it does appear there were a pair of them going for each other and she came out the worst. I wonder if she had held on to the brick would it be her on the stand and him on the ground?

It just makes me sad for all concerned in it... especially the daughter.

Mr Justice Barry White said he at least "had the decency" to call emergency services and attempt to resuscitate his wife. "That is the only decent act you committed on that morning." The judge said Lillis then persisted to lie to gardaí to conceal his own involvement.

“Before you made that call, you took time to change your clothing and hide it in the attic, and concocted this story,” he said referring to a lie about an intruder having attacked his wife. “This account was designed to conceal your own involvement. You even went so far as to point your finger at an innocent man.”

At the Central Criminal Court this morning, Mr Justice Barry White said that, having consulted a number of judgements by the Court of Criminal Appeal, a sentence of 10 years would be appropriate

Well, not the prison I was in. I do think there are people who's standard of living would improve by being in prison, but in fairness their outside life would need to be fairly drastic. I was in 2 actually, but one was an open prison. So that wasn't so bad. Still they all wanted out!!
