Some places have gotten 32 inches.
When was the last large snow storm you remember?
How old were you?
Where were you?
The last biggie was 67.I believe it was 1967.I was 5 years old.
The snow was taller than me.It was alot of fun.Don't remember much.
Seen pictures.

About three weeks ago, more snow than I can ever remember,
in the city that is.
The heaviest snowfall I experienced was in Val-d'Isère in
the French Alps when it put down a metre and a half (about
5ft) overnight. The next day there wasnt a cloud in the sky
so needless to say the skiing was just fantastic.yay

Mine was just before Xmas last year... woke up with it snowing..
and ending up with 18" of it... I got snowed in, which would of been ok, but my daughter was flying into Spain that night to see me and I couldnt get up to pick her up... luckily friends near the airport collected here (no snow there) and I got down there 2 days later...

A SNOW BABY

I was born during this mess 50 years ago! Banner Elk NC and Mom saved the newspaper of the helicopters in my baby book.

"The decade of the 1960s began with a bang in Watauga County. More specifically, it began with a blizzard.

The winter of 1959-60 began normally enough. The first snow fell in November, and 19 inches was reported by the start of the New Year. That was slightly more than average, but not enough to notice. Then January came and just 8.5 inches of snow fell, which was well below normal.

And then it started. Beginning in February and continuing well into March, heavy snow fell every Wednesday[/b]. It happened like clockwork. Thirty inches of snow came down in February, but that seemed minor compared to the 51 inches that fell in March. In those two months, just under seven feet of snow poured down on the High Country.

What accompanied these storms was even worse. Temperatures remained below freezing continually, preventing thawing. The mean temperature for February 1960 at Grandfather Mountain was a bone-chilling 24.4 degrees, eight degrees colder than the year before and 10 degrees colder than the same month in 1961. Then it really got cold. The mean temperature in March on Grandfather was an all-time record low of 19.8 degrees. The average over the last 43 years is 36.0. Of course the record for that month is incomplete: in March 1960, workers could only reach the top of the mountain nine out of 31 days. Add to this strong winds and there was the making of disaster.

Children were trapped in schools at times, and there seemed to be no end to the misery. Finally, the state stepped in. Traveling by helicopter, the American Red Cross and National Guard arrived. Heavy snowmaking equipment was rushed in as well as food. The choppers dropped supplies in rural areas.
"cold

The last decent amount of snow I remember witnessing was about 15 years ago. I was living in central PA. We got 33 inches in less than 24 hours. It was great! Following that, we had a cold snap where the temps hovered around -20F for a few weeks. Wind chills were at -60F during that time. It was an interesting winter that year.

Here are some interesting snow facts for the US.

Approximately 70 percent of the annual snowfall in the United States falls during December, January and February. However, for areas near the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, March and April are often their snowiest months.

On average, 105 snow producing storm systems hit the lower 48 United States annually.

The old saying that ten inches of fresh snow contains one inch of water is only occasionally true. In reality, ten inches of new snow can contain as little as 0.10 inches of water to nearly four inches.

GREATEST SNOWFALLS IN USA
(Recorded in inches)

In 1 month: 390" Tamarack, Calif. Jan. 1911
In 24 hours: 76" Silver Lake, Colo. April 14–15, 1921
In one storm: 189" Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl, Calif. Feb. 13–19, 1959
In one season: 1,140" Mount Baker, Wash. 1998–1999
