Impact: I have always been into survival, and am pretty well prepared to survival most anything.
That being said, our country is not. If a quake, happened somewhere, and a tidal wave hit the US and wiped out the East coast, we would be on our own. I do not believe we would receive much, if any help from any country.
I have been called a survivalist nut and other names, but then everyone always says, if anything ever happens, their showing up at my place.
Rule #1. Always have a well thought out plan in place to bug out of the area,, food and water supplies, and needed equipment.
Most people will rely on the government to come and save them, and whine because it doesn't come fast enough.
If our coast was wiped out, with a few million dead, help would be non existent. Our economy might very well collapse, the military might have to be called home to help, martial law declared,, and then TSHTF.
There is a mountain,, can't remember the name, that scientists said could slide off into the ocean if a quake hit that area, And if it did, a wave so large would hit the East coast, and prolly travel inland for a couple hundred miles or more, and wipe out everything in it's path.
The government will not always be there.
Depend on yourselves.
