The_Kansan: A beautiful song indeed! Originally written as a wedding present for his brother, it was only later - at the urging of his sister in law and brother - that he decided to go ahead and record it.

Ain't it amazing what happens in East Tennessee in the spingtime?

Thank you for the history of this beautiful song.

"Well if you strike a match and set the whole world aflame
And they used up the oceans and still prayed for rain
When they cry for the guilty, I'll take the blame
And when no one is listening, I'll whisper your name"

Oh, to be loved like that!

This Springtime in Tennessee is more amazing than any other I have ever known. The grass is greener, the skies bluer, the flowers more full and colorful, and the birds have sung sweeter.wink

Indeed! The past three have been that way for me. Almost as though I hadn't known how to live or notice or feel prior to that.

What follows is the song I wrote for the one responsible for making me feel that way:

Jackie’s Song
(You Make the Miles Sing For Me…)

You make the miles sing for me;
You put a song right in my soul.
And I don’t ever want to leave,
Even when I’ve got to go.

And when I’m on the road,
I just can’t wait to get back home again.
Back into the arms
Of my dearest, sweetest friend –

You make the miles sing to me.
You put a big smile on my face
And I don’t ever want to fall
From your tender, loving grace.

And I can’t explain how it is you do
The things, to me, you do,
But you know that I love it
‘Cause it’s part of loving you!

And you’re always in my dreams
When I go to bed each night.
And you’re the first thing on my mind
In the early morning light.

My life was so empty
Until you came along
And worked your magic on me
And filled my heart with song;

You make the miles sing for me;
We’d been alone too long,
Ah, but then we found each other
Now we’re right where we belong.

And I just can’t live without you
Forever in my life,
To love me through the good times
And the sorrows and the strife.

And your heart sang to me
On the day we said I do
And I’ll never get lonely
Just as long I have you.

And though the miles might come between us
We’ll never really be far apart,
Just as long as we’re next to
Each other in our hearts.

And from the first time that I saw you,
Somehow I always knew.
That no matter where you are,
A part of me would be there too!

When I looked into your eyes,
I thought I'd be around a while.
But then I kissed your lips and found
Forever in your smile

And if you ever wonder
What your sweet love does to me
Well honey, I’ll just tell you -
…You make the miles sing for me…

wonderworker: Truly amazing indeed Don..."uncanny" is the best word I've managed to come up with, and that doesn't even begin to describe it.
Aren't you supposed to be planting potatoes in my back yard and catching my trout this morning?

"I wonder if there are mountains in heaven. The preacher talks of the city of God,but even if it is peopled with angels,I dont want to go there.I am done with walls.I shall camp in God's wilderness where it is always summer. Then I will truly be home."

Frankie Silver

I do not envy the owners of large gardens.
The garden should fit its master...
just as his clothes do;
it should be neither too large
nor to small,
but just comfortable.

I've never had
A face you'd notice
The world never took
Much notice of me
I've never been
Good at conversation,
I was too busy tripping on
My own feet

I've never had
Grand illusions
Love was always
For someone else,
But in world
Of so few surprises
There's still a few
Surprises left...

Ain't it amazing
That miracles happen
Ain't it amazing
You can still find your dreams
Ain't it amazing
That it all comes true
When someone like you
Can happen to someone like me?

So hold me now
Warm beside you.
Let me stay
Forever near
Sometimes I think
I'm only dreaming
hen I wake up
And you're still here...

Ain't it amazing
That miracles happen
Ain't it amazing
You can still find your dreams
Ain't it amazing
That it all comes true
When someone like you
Can happen to someone like me?

I was indeed supposed to be, but I don't own a tractor and had been informed that things weren't ready. As to the other - Much as I enjoy catching your fish with my Blue Fox spinners, being terminally broke, I was hoping to combine trips to cut down on expenses.

Strange that growing up as a country girl with fields and gardens that we never grew watermelons. I don't think I have ever tasted a homegrown one. Are they difficult to grow?

Alone with touch of heaven
In nature's life we share
A moment of God's blessing
So beautifully aware

Grass so tall with splendor
Sky so blue and clear
Within the heart we nurture
This beauty we revere

Place we fill with laughter
Love we share with peace
A lifetime spent with moments
Are treasures that we keep

Hear the silent whispers
In breezes that will flow
Keep the fire's burning
For love that has life's glow.

It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is.
And when you've got it, you want
oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want,
but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!

Watermelon and Apples are my favorite foods. Well, when it's cold I like Butternut Squash too... as a thick soup with toasted pecans. y-u-m !!
