It would appear it's an important win for those for whom the words "In God we Trust" and "Under God" mean something. There have been numerous PACS fighting to remove these words from our currency and the US pledge of Allegiance. These words are going to stay.

In response to: SAN FRANCISCO -- An appellate court has upheld references to God on U.S. currency and in the Pledge of Allegiance, rejecting arguments they violate the constitutional separation of church and state.

"The Pledge of Allegiance serves to unite our vast nation through the proud recitation of some of the ideals upon which our Republic was founded," Judge Carlos Bea wrote for the majority in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals 2-1 ruling Thursday.

Bea noted that schools do not require students to recite the pledge, which was amended to include the words "under God" by a 1954 federal law. Members of Congress at the time said they wanted to set the United States apart from "godless communists."

In a separate 3-0 ruling, the appeals court upheld the inscription of the national motto "In God We Trust" on U.S. coins and currency, citing an earlier 9th Circuit panel that ruled the phrase is ceremonial and patriotic and "has nothing whatsover to do with the establishment of religion."

In response to: Rory Little, a professor at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, said the Supreme Court is unlikely to review the case because Thursday's ruling is the third appellate court decision upholding the pledge.

In addition, Congress passed legislation reaffirming the pledge in 2002, following the 9th Circuit's ruling that struck it down.

"I think this is the last word on this particular lawsuit," Little said. "It's an important ruling."

Greg Katsas, who argued the currency case on behalf of the U.S. government when the appellate court heard the case in December 2007, said the panel made the right decision Thursday.

"I think these two phrases encapsulate the philosophy on which the nation was founded," said Katsas, who now works in private practice. "There is a religious aspect to saying "One nation under God," but it isn't like a prayer. When someone says the pledge, they're not praying to God, they're pledging allegiance to the country, the flag and the ideals of the country."

Personally, I'm one of the Americans who considers these words on the currency and within the pledge to simply be traditional. There is little wrong with catering to healthy tradition in the United States of America.

While our country is a virtual melting pot, opening its doors to all, there is also nothing wrong with maintaining what many who are in the majority feel is important. These words on our currency and within the pledge are essentially a time-honored tradition that America has been based upon. This belief in a Creator/God is something that most of us feel is particularly important about America, and many share this belief, regardless of how they perceive of or refer to this Higher Power.

I don't believe we should ever become so "politically correct" that we no longer value the traditional and the expression of generic religious faith in a country that promises freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

Thats the best news I've heard today....

"In God We Trust",”One Nation Under God…..”
was how this country was founded and never should be changed...

As for the "Pledge of Allegiance" I believe it should be used by us all daily along with prayer....

I agree there has been so much dissension in the last few years...So many things have changed in the minds of some people, we have had many things happen within this country so many are down talking, so much corruption, scandals etc. Our citizens are losing their beliefs as to what this country really stands for...

Remember the old Superman saying "Truth, Justice the American Way" well I am glad I am an American...There is no better place, no place with more opportunities than we have here...Stand beside her and guide her...From sea to shinning sea, from the mountains to the prairie…Yes God Bless America

Thank You SouthernLass for posting this hope it reminds at least a few of us of what this country is and was and how it was founded...

One Nation Under God…..

I received an email months ago that stated the new money produced, does not have the words that state In God We Trust. I was requested to deny these currencies.

RANDY72: One Nation Under GOD

We won...Yea! cheering cheering

In God we Trust.....the country hasnt been doing so well since the 'smart people' kicked him out of our schools..

]It is amazing to me today that some parents, who do not believe in God and demonstrate this lack of belief to their children by what they say or the way they live, wonder why their children will not obey them. Why should they? They have removed the only source of authority that they have, and no child is going to obey a parent who has destroyed that source of authority. I am convinced that much of our law and order problems center around this very question.

Perhaps we should put God back in the schools as well..and give these poor kids a chance ....
'
The society doesn't teach temperance...decency....personal responsibility...anymore in the schools..

The kids are out of control..the teachers cant even control them..

These days..society teaches...do anything you want..no matter what....and if you make a mistake...the gov. will fix it for you...

I think this miserable mistake is starting to raise its ugly head..
