Either obvious or abstract....

Singular word answer or narrative....

ie...Truth..My Father..."or" The Peacemakers, The Poets......the people who go to uninspiring jobs EVERY DAY because it's what they must do.....Heroes...laugh HECK!....ANTI-Heroes...

Lately.. and I guess always (for me) it's someone who busts my chops with absolute honesty even if it stings a bit who makes me face myself.

It's also something very cool that my niece said.

What earns your respect?

trish123: Tough question Tunnel Ill have to think about this one

Yes..had to think too. Posed the question to see what's important to people.

I suppose the common "thing" I respect in the "people" I respect is.......

an adherence to their own idealism, integrity, and truth no matter the popularity.

You said the word and thank you - Integrity!!!

Yep, if a person has the grasp of personal integrity then they are going to employ it in their relationships with everybody they encounter, its almost like 'personality glue' lol - so many people work from a basis of personal gain though and it can be tricky to tell the genuine article at times but this is where the saying of only fools rush in comes from I guess.......

Integrity's a pretty interesting concept if we unpick it, it isnt something that can be worn like your Sunday best, its an inherent quality in all we experience.......

I just found a really interesting site on the subject - heres a couple of quotes;

"Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching."

Integrity will:

begin and continue as a personal ON-GOING decision to stand firm on principals that are inherently good.

*
most likely take the long, straight and narrow road and does not cave into cheating.

*
tell the truth over a lie despite the consequences.

*
suffer the consequences instead of compromise itself.

*
help to steer a person clear of those that easily bow to a corrupt nature.

*
be apt to lend a helping hand simply as a by-product of this special lifestyle decision.

*
diminish and eventually disappear if you choose to ignore and abandon it.

*
set you apart from a great number of people who have chosen to follow the lead of a different drummer.

*
sometimes separate you from the "in" crowd, but that's not always the case.

*
on some occasions, make other people feel uncomfortable around you because of their own insecurities, problems and guilt.

*
impress others only because of your decision to adhere to such a (sometimes) difficult lifestyle.

*
sometimes put you into tight situations that APPEAR to be needlessly difficult.

*
allow for rebuilding. It will come back and continue to blossom if you choose and allow it to grow within.
