LoveMovies: I agree. That is why I am wondering are they asking because they hunger for the answers, or is this just another argument. The answer I get is that it is their right to question.
Tis everybodies right to question, just as when a person of religious standing asks why an atheist does not believe. So I guess you have not questioned anything in the bible at all? i.e. the meaning of any passages that you might not understand straightaway. As all is not obvious on first reading.
This is what I mean about questioning, it can only lead a person on the road to some form of having acquired knowledge. Not just for the sake of arguing no. But I do have strong convictions as one lady so described, right down to a T. Questioning does not necessarily mean disbelief. In life you have to see things from many different angles, not just one. There is not just one passage but many. Call it having an open mind.
Keeping your mind open will give you a better understanding of the world and faiths people believe in. Leading being more tolerant of one another. Understanding each other.
RayfromUSA: Given the magnitude of your misinterpretation of the meaning of the verses you were responding to, (about hating evil) I fear you may be right. Nobody's going to mistake you for a Christian.
But don't be discouraged, as long as there's life, there's hope.
Wow, Ray, that sounded sarcastic, judgmental, superior and patronizing to me. Is that "The Way'? No thanks..
Veritaas: LoveMovies, where have I stated that I do not believe. Tis an assumption you have made. If one asks questions why do people take it on board themselves to assume they are being sceptical as Ray has put it in one of his posts. Question are just that, if you don't ask you don't learn.
You're profile says you are an Atheist, therefore you do not believe in Christianity, right?

Why would God have a problem with us questioning words that are written by men? I guess it is lock step in that world, but I just don't get it...for me anyway.

I have often found it on these forums that when a person of a religious nature is questioned they often take it upon themselves to say people of non relgious beliefs are just looking for an argument. One thing people have got to get into their heads is that religion is one of the biggest talked about and disputed, believed topics in the world to date.
I quite frankly think is unreal to say that anyone of a religious belief who read the bible never questioned on word of it at some stage to enlighten their understanding or meaning of it.
Veritaas: On my profile yes but not in an open forum. If you were to go by religious law then I come from two backgrounds.
One can believe in acts of christianity, or a person being of a christian nature.
I don't think the topic was on christian's nature. I agree, many christians do not act very christian like. I just feel the threads have become a combat zone and not a true exchange of information. I just have a hard time discussing anything where there are name calling and mocking. That is not a true forum for learning. This goes for either side.

That is true, but why would I want to discuss my personal beliefs if I am called "stupid" like in the last forum. This person was not interested in learning anything. It really makes it hard when you want to talk to the people who really do want to have a better understanding.
RayfromUSA: LoveMovies: It probably is. It seem like too many people question the Christian faith not because they want to have a better understanding, but because they want to set traps. That is why the forums are probably not a good way to discuss religions beliefs. Too many people want to argue. I must admit that I get caught in that as well, and it isn't until I take a step back that I realize this is not helpful. It probably isn't helpful to start threads that is not conducive to better understanding, but a battle between the differences. Veritas: It is human nature to question something, in fact anything. It's not only human nature, it's essential to question things. If we don't question, we will fall for every conman and every scam.
There's nothing wrong with questioning.
If somebody's faith can't handle being questioned, it's not very good faith.
Questions are the best way in the world to share one's faith. And the best way to expose false faith.
It is a wonderful thing of strength and allowance to share your knowledge when you are asked by a child many questions. When children ask we must not ignore this, that is why i suppose many tribal words are spoken and woven in beautiful stories, but with a solid knot at the end. Living in New Zealand which is very multi cultural country, I see and am around many ethnic families, the tight cord of respect for their elders, that is a way of life. Many will run haphazard through life, but at the end of the day the whanau is there. Regardless of which ever god one chooses to take into their heart.
"When I pass these beautiful shores and slip away I shall know that I shared my love and caring I will be ok I have no fear Because of that Peace.

People will put up threads just to aggravate, so hence why many do not participate or just result in verbal battery. Learning about religions all around the world gives you good insight to other cultures and can give you a very good understanding of other people. And a genuine respect of them, knowing you can share your own thoughts about your beliefs. Knowledge is a wonderful thing. The day I stop learning about anything that interests me is the day my mind has no interest in life and what it holds or to offer

Your manners are much better than some that use these forums.
There are others that become very abusive over the idea that some might choose to follow Christianity or Islam. Many of that vocal abusive minority insist on controlling both sides of the debate. Instead of wanting to argue with a Christian or Muslim about that particular person's beliefs they TELL THEM what they believe then argue against that point instead.
Admittedly it is not just the non-believers that sink so low. I saw you having an exchange with a person who has posted here under several identities. He was being quite obnoxious and abusive. To the point that it seemed to be his true goal to annoy people. Faith was just the flavor of the day for him.
People are going to believe what they want to believe. With most of us trying to force us to change our minds or putting us down for our belief, what ever belief that might be, will only make us all that more determined to hold our position.

Thank you. These raging storms that enter these threads are insane not to say the least. Rather have people on either side debating coherently and offering their informed views and beliefs. The true nature of a persons character will shine through when they stand up for what they believe in. They are on solid ground either way. When it comes to extremism of any form, I do not agree at all (religion or politics). But we still must be able to understand how it is culminated, though one can disagree.
Yes that person was what I call an unsavory of the most dispicable kind. If that one were to verbally assault someone of the religious nature I would be best pleased at all.

I'm guessing he is still here under multiple identities and positions.
conjor: My prediction is that every one of you who say there is no God will one day in the near future (kneel before A God)even if you do not think he is'You shall kneel before him) And please do not take my words out of there proper context) I said that you shall kneel before A God! I did not say that you would kneel before God;Is there any one out there with wisdom??????
Your conjecture presupposes there to be a god, what evidence do you have to support this position? Secondly I will not kneel for any God. Such as the one of the bible, I would never kneel before such a cruel creature.......
