Hi Nuli

Yes if it was someone from here I think coffee is the best idea for a first meet.

AngelinBali: I'm probably the record holder in having asked guys out I've meet in the super market vegetable corner - no kidding.
Without a doubt I ask more out than I get asked - the majority of man has a rejection phobia and I love to see their them lighten up if I make the first steep.
I probably would still be virgin if I had waited for a man to make the first step.
You must be an angel.angel

The guy pays on the first date. period. I don't do "coffee" dates. If I think enough of her to take her out, we're going OUT. I'm with Ken, the guy always pays on a date. The old fashioned thing is a bit of a two way street though. I want to be cooked for not to long into things. Some home cookin' for this guy please. grin

I think if a gentleman asks a lady out, he should pay for the first date...But after that? share and share alike wine

galrads: Should men pay for stuff on a date or on first meeting type events?
Isn't this practice something "outdated", especially, unlike back in the 80's most women's incomes are equal or greater than the guy she is dating?
It's been a while since I dated and I'm not here by choice (widower) so tell me why men should pay or not pay today.

I'm old fashioned and I pay. That's just me;

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I think I'm going to adopt the newer school of thought on first dates dating.
The first date isn't just about the women being impressed or the guys ego trying to impress, monetarily.
Rather, for me, the first date (or meeting) is an eye-to-eye discovery event to see if any chemistry and common interests are shared by both parties. And if it's discovered these things don't exist then, why would either party pay for the other and never see the other again?
btw: I respect and prefer the more independent women, and I like to cook, so, for whatever it's worth, that may have some influence with my decision here.
