wexlady41: Thanks for your input guys.

I will talk to the vet in the morning and see if he can find a home for the dog.. if not I will have no option but to have him put down I think.

It's not fair on him to be tied up all day.. I know that. And until the kids went away to college he was only tied up when we were all out. But now I have no other choice as there is nobody else to look after him during the day.

It's a hard decision but one I have to make.

Thanks again for your advice everyone.
I know its a tough decision but its better than having the dog tied up all day, I'm sorry to say that WL hug

Three dogs are in the waiting room of a vets office. The first dog asked the second dog "What are you here for?"

"I crap and pee all over the house so I'm going to be put to sleep. What are you here for?" the second dog asked.

"Whenever my master is gone, I tear the house apart. I bite
and chew on everything. I'm going to be put to sleep, too" replied the first dog.

The first two dogs look to the third dog and ask "What are you here for?"

"Well, one day my mistress was bent over vacuuming the floor and I just couldn't help myself and I humped her." said the third dog.

"They're going to put you to sleep for that!?" exclaimed the first two dogs.

"No! I'm just here to get my nails clipped."

mcattack: Best thing to do is to build him a little run, like a caged corner of your garden where he has a bit of room, it will be cheaper than getting walls and fences around your whole garden.
Go see your vet too and see what they have to say.

also dogs can get bore! being tired up not good for then. no excised.
aggression can be a very big problem. when not controlled, becomes danerous, no matter the size or breed. they will bite or even attack. ask the vet for advice, praise him. when he's good with other dogs, get youself ............

wexlady41: Just had a very irate neighbour call to my door to complain that my dog was attacking his pit-bull. I was trying to catch my dog, who got away when I was bringing him in to feed him, when he attacked the nighbours dog again.

Apparently this is not the first time he has done this. The guy called back and said my dog had attacked his sisters dog a few weeks ago. He said he is not reporting it to the guards this time but is sending me the vet bill for his dogs torn mouth and ear. That is fair enough... I will pay up.

I'm afraid he would attack and seriously injure another animal or a child. He's normally tied up but has been known to get off his lead during the day...when I'm not there to catch him.

So have I any choice but to get my dog put down?

did you see your dog attack your neighbours dog?

This could just be a territory thing or that your dog just doesn't like the smell or advances the other dog made towards him, unless your dog is secretly been trained for dog fighting I doubt he would just attack your neighbours dog for know reason.

tell your neighbour where to go and that you won't be paying for any of those bills, if he does call the guards theres not much they can do unless proper evidence is shown of the attack like cctv ect it'll most likely be handled by the dspca or which ever one of those is closest to you.

you don't need to have your dog put down, but it does sound like he needs a lil training.

have your neighbour and his sister been taunting your dog or anything ? or have their dogs attacked your dog before??
my dog and my next dooor neighbpours dog fight if they meet, they are 2 males and its just nature , we have an understanding with our neighbour that we just keep them apart.
theres no need to get your dog put down !!! dogs will fight its their nature! they are territorial, remember they are animals.

some people here have mentioned getting him nutered , that would help and also some dog training or socialising. if you dont have time, money ect to do this , having him rehomed would be the best option. i hope the problem gets solved !!!

Yes. Your dog sounds like it has got out of control. I like to jog and every night in my local park, some dog or another runss after me. Wht do owners think they don't have to have their dogs on leads in parks or on the beach?????? Its law that it must be on a lead at all times.
And they always say the same thing...." He wont tough you, he only barks!". How many people have said that just befor their dog bits someone or rips the face of a kid????very mad cheers

Eamonl: Your doing the right thing getting him neutered first,it can make a massive diffrence. It may not but I have a Dalmatian that used to be really aggressive with other dogs until he got the snip,a completely changed dog, really placid now...Hope it works out for you

Ooh that gives me hope. There is a bit of dalmation in my dog... his father is half dalmation half labrador. His mother is a bit of everything under the sun.

When he's with me or with other people he's ok. A little over friendly sometimes but generally well behaved. It's just other dogs (and hedgehogs) he has "issues" with. And even that is only recently.

Hopefully he will settle down after his op. I will be keeping a very close eye on him. I don't allow him to just run free... I live in the country so it's not an option. But sometimes he gets lose. Have bought an extra lead so even if he gets off one he still can't get away.

Hopefully the op will sort it,I think you said he is only three.full of testosterone...
If the neutering works Id try look into getting him a small run,as a previous poster said you can buy them and put them together yourself in Woddies or B&Q,being tied up all day could be adding to his aggressiondunno

Ah will ya stop. That's my baby you're talking about. laugh laugh

Anyway...

I brought my dog for a walk this morning. Passed 5 other dogs, several cyclists, walkers, children....

My dog did not bark or strain the lead or anything. He just walked along beside me ignoring them. I even stopped to talk to a friend and my dog just lay down beside me while I was chatting.

The guy with the pitbull from the other night walked by my garden later today and my dog went ballistic!!!

I think the guy and his dog may not be as innocent as I first thought.

It would be kinder to try and re home your dog, getting him put down should be last option, goodluck
