This is not a joke. I Just back from vacation in Florida. In the trip down I was going through the baggage check here at the airport and they scanned and opened my bags. By mistake I had left a set of small screwdrivers in my carry-on along with some toothpaste. Know what? they confiscated the toothpaste but gave the screwdriver set back to me!

Now if I were a terrorist and up to no good, the screwdrivers could have been used in a varety of ways including as a weapon!

Does that restore your already low opinon of airport security?

Inherent risk says I would have taken the toothpaste before I took the screwdrivers as well. The screwdrivers, if of a smaller size, pose alot less of a risk. The toothpaste could have been semtex or something equally nasty packed in a tube.. or be made into something resembling an improvised explosive with a few other common items that most have in their bathroom/things they travel with.

Yes, I will not dispute that the screwdrivers weren't something potentially dangerous.. but odds are that you can't use a screwdriver to take the plane out of the sky as you could a tube of something explosive. You could still stab with them, but air marshals who fly on planes have shells designed not to crack the integrity of the plane and if you stabbed even 1 with the screwdriver, you'd be in a bloody heap on the floor without a second thought.

After spending 4 hours in Canadian customs, I know what you mean.

No gels, sprays, pastes or anything that could be used to hide or construct an explosive or device.

Dang it.............I live in Florida.

My sister had to taste in front of an officer at baggage check the milk that she was carrying for her baby. She was going to Paris, and this happened at the Spanish Airport of Madrid. You could only get into the plane carrying passport or id and they must be sealed in a seethru plastic bag with the airport logo. Thats what I call security!!!! She asked the officer whats next, and he said..."if thread continues....and if it helps saving lives...next time you will get on board naked...and is no joke."jaw drop

I had a pocket knife when I went on my trip this past weekend. Of course it was in my checked baggage.

I had a magic marker in my carry on that I had forgotten to remove. When I went thru the security checkpoint, they opened my bag to see what that object was but left it.

Before I packed for my flight to NC, I checked the airlines website about what I could take. Liquids (cologne) and gels (toothpaste) had to be in the baggage you check in.

When I returned to Manchester on Mon, I had no way to light a cigarette but found a guy outside who had a bic lighter he had carried on the plane. Supposedly, according to the info I read, only empty lighters were allowed to be carried.

A set of screwdrivers cannot take down an airplane. A 20ft hole blown in the side of the plane by a tube of something explosive can.
