felinelady: To be honest, I hardly cook more than 3 times a week. We eat a lot of salads and I bake my own bread every 2-3 days. Can't stand the stuff they sell in shops, no substance. I make sandwiches for work lunch, and in the evenings we don't eat warm meals all the time. Salat, bread, fruit, cheese, etc. And I do NEED my ice cream before I go to bed Lidl is good for that, they have cornetto style ice cream fairly cheap

I spend an AWFUL lot on prepared food in M & S and don't really like to eat fruit from anywhere else. I lpve Aldi for cheese, icecream, brown bread and pasta grin

You don't fancy moving in with me for a year do you, haha wink You could do all the food shopping!!!

Actually that's an idea ..... I have friend who is a student that needs a place for a year. I could let her move in rent free if she would do all the cooking and food shopping. I'm really bad at that kind of thing

Lidl is great.

I fed the 6 of us for under €5 today. Bacon/ham offcuts (which just means they aren't nice and round) €1.99, head of cabbage €1.50, bag of baby potatoes €1.

I would love to be able to do that. I can't even boil a potato and have never fried an egg or cooked any kind of chicken.

The only things I can do are pasta, mince (only able to cook that since last year) stir fried vegetables and scrambled egg.

I was a vegetarian for 8 years and still have a bit of a phobia about raw meat. I would love to be able to cook properly. I know it sounds so stupid but even learning to cook mince was a big deal for me blushing

Is it because you haven't tried or that you've failed in the past?

Don't let that stop you... start out with casseroles (chicken, beef, pork ets), the instructions are on the sauce packets. Just follow them as closely as you can, add in extra veg instead if you don't have a taste for too much meaty stuff. They make large amounts but can be frozen in dinner sized amounts in lunchboxes and the like.

A bit of both really. I am just in awe of people that can cook well. I just feel I am going to mess it up and poison either myself or someone else! I think I felt as excited the day I managed to make a mince bolognaise as I did when I finished college!

I will try that with a chicken casserole packet when I start on the four days. Thanks

grin

Me neither. Bought meat once in Lidl and once in Aldi. Both were rotten. Chicken fillets from Aldi was absolutely stinking when I opened it.

I like Supervalu meat. It's local and always fresh.

Get yourself a cookbook aimed at students. There are a few of them. They tend to do mainly basic meals and have a few "fancier" dishes in them too. As they're geared towards students they usually use cheap ingredients too.
