I am going on a four day week for a year and will be taking a salary hit of €10k as a result (ouch!). Unfortunately, none of my outgoings will be reducing. Anyone have any good money saving tips?

Well, don't look for a financial advisor in Ireland. I think that's a good start.

Going on a four day week is something I want to do as I need three days in a row off for "educational" reasons so I wouldn't really be interested in another job.
I basically want to keep living my life the way I do now but on a reduced income. Pie in the sky perhaps!
I'm planning to do things like cook more, stop buying magazines, no random purchases etc...

Would i be right in thinking that a 4 day week is equal to a 20% reduction in working time? i think so,so if my maths are right........you earn 20% X 5 = 100% or 10,000 X5= 50,000
I have bad news for you,if you cant live on 40,000 a year you need professional advice, the reduction you have taken is what some people on the dole have to live on for an entire year.Go and talk to someone in your bank or credit union, they will help.Dont expect this thread wont recieve some aggressive responses, theres a lot of people here that are on welfare, recession and cs go hand in hand im afraid.I wish you well.
would you travel costs etc be reduced .. ie do you work from home.. .. if you go out to work. you would be amazed of the suttle savings you may make petrol. lunch out .. review your car insurance .. house general stuff .. ok it wont amount to that amount but.. just an idea.. ouch 10 K ..

but all the best with it
I don't drive ... want to learn though!
I probably spend €120 a week on groceries ... and that's just for me! Talking to friends, they all think I should be able to get that down to €60 so that would make a good start.
Worst case scenario I will take a lodger in. I did have one for 3 years but I've been on my own for 2 years now and have got a bit too used to it. My apartment is pretty small so it's a tight squeeze if you don't get on with your housemate!

Erm..... deffo savings potential there! We spend about 80 per week for 2 adults and 2 cats. And one of the adults (and it's NOT me!) is 6'3 and can eat a horse!

I reckon I am responsible for a good chunk of the profits for food sales of M & S in Ireland
No more though! I am going to become the Irish Nigella and cook ALL THE TIME thus saving lots of money (I hope!)

Really? 40,000???? Jays, I only make 27,000 in my current (full time) job and considered myself lucky Most of my friends make between 22,000 and 28,000 here.

To be honest, I hardly cook more than 3 times a week. We eat a lot of salads and I bake my own bread every 2-3 days. Can't stand the stuff they sell in shops, no substance. I make sandwiches for work lunch, and in the evenings we don't eat warm meals all the time. Salat, bread, fruit, cheese, etc. And I do NEED my ice cream before I go to bed Lidl is good for that, they have cornetto style ice cream fairly cheap
