Everyone has their favourite guitarist.
For me, the best of them is Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits fame.

My all time fav solo is gary moore's one in thin lizzy's 'waiting for an alibi'.not pushed on his own stuff but with skid row and lizzy thought he was brillant.

Solo must meen something different in Oz! I'd be a Mark Knopfler fan myself. I couldn't tell you if he's as technically profficient as Gary Moore or Joe Satriani but he can make the guitar sing to use his own words from Sultans of Swing.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Knopfler live.... the man's technical ability is simply astounding, his playing on the acoustic takes your breath away.
Another great guitarist I like is Brian May, lead with the great band Queen..... brilliant.
There is probably greater guitarists, but its all in the genre they play.... for me Knopfler ticks all the boxes and he was the one that made me take up the 6 string years ago.... but I am definately in the 3 chord league !!

I'd say you have the same tastes and talent level as myself and I always knew a Queen song by Brian May's guitar playing. Sometimes though I mistake Chris Rea's blues guitar style for Mark Knopfler!

Got to say I agree with you about Knopfler...
I saw him twice at the Royal Albert Hall in London..
On the second occasion I saw him play on the same stage with Eric Clapton (who I've seen three times).... Mark and Eric were absolutely electrifying playing together...
My other favourites... Brian May, Gary Moore (Blues for Greeny)
