Just got back from the Wesport music festival, only stayed the one night and had a great time.So i woke up this morning in a friends house in Castelbar,i got up had breakfast and got back on the road.I took a wrong turn and basically found myself driving up a mountain,so i decided to keep driving to the top.I got to the top, stepped out of the car,i was just blown away by how beautiful the surrounding area was,i thought to myself then and there,"jesus, its been ages since i felt like this",i was simply awestruck.
I guess the point of this thread is that,no matter what kind of emotional state you are in or even when we think of what a terrible mess the country is in,we all need to be so grateful that in our own backyard, just a drive away,is some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and the best part of all,its free.
When was the last time,if ever, you felt the same as i did today?

Lovely! Yes, I know exactly how you felt. And the last time I felt that was yesterday morning when I drove to work. My way to work takes me past a few really nice vistas and most of the days utter gratefulness fills me then. Good way to start a day.
Actually, no, wait, I had it this morning at 5 o'clock. I had woken with a dreadful headache, went downstairs to the kitchen to take some painkillers, opened the back door to let the cats out and just stood there, breathing in the lovely clean humid warm(ish) air. Smelled a bit of sea, a bit like a forrest after a summer rain, and a bit like freshly cut grass.
For me, after having lived most of my live in an area with terrible air pollution, having clean fresh air is something I always appreciate very much!

Cant think of 1 just off the top of my head atm....but a lovely post! Glad you enjoyed your trip off the beaten track!
last summer when i had a lot more time to myself cos my childs dad use to take her me and a few friends use to go on long drives and find places like that the nicest one was somewhere up the wicklow mountains we had to walk up the mountain for about ten minutes and it was very steep but when we got up there it was so amazing best place ever we stayed there for hours and just relaxed at one stage there was no talkin for over an hour and thats not like me but it really left ya speachless
I know the feeling of fresh air you are talking about, its wondeful. The last time i went camping i had that too, lol. Living in Limerick city all my life has dulled my appreciation for the simplicity if taking a deep breath filled with fresh air.
to day i went home ya home to sligo to my old house which is falling to bits but still when i looked out at the view we used to have from our window it blows me away its like stepping back a hundred yrs that view is wot i hope to put on mums memorial card
oh the memories it has brought back all good im pleased to say

Hello there Neighbour lol Yeah Donegal is fantastic, I get to have those views on a daily basis also. I often take wrong turns and keep going just for the hell of it, I almost always have a camera with me and some of the scenery is just breath taking. I love just having the time to get out of the car and enjoy it without rushing.
