The ecconomists are now predicting that the cost of living is soon going to start rising again. I heard something on The Last Word about it.

Godsgift: So what your saying is that we punish the unemployed for the recession by cutting their benefits whilst at the same time we continue to subsidise and employ the people such as bankers, developers, senior civil servants and regulators who caused this mess in the first place.

Socialism and a welfare state for the rich! Don't ya just love it?

You're somewhere to the right of Margaret Thatcher I'd say when the young unemployed were hounded from town to town looking for work and not allowed to stay anywhere for more than 6 weeks.

Completely opposed to the bank bailouts as well as Nama, all the unviable banks in Ireland should be allowed go bust, ie Anglo Irish Bank, Allied Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide. We should bring in foreigners to run the central bank apart from Honohan, us gombeen Paddy's don't seem to be up to the job.

The government can't continue to pay out unaffordable welfare benefits, they are now borrowing off the international markets simply so that welfare can be paid out in 2010, in other ways the international markets now have the power to refuse Ireland any more loans to pay for the day to day running of the country.

I'd suppose you'd prefer it if the IMF came into this country, it would be a experience none of us will ever forget if they come in and take over the country.

depends on the family make up .. but with social welfare, rent allowance and all other possible financial supports, can be done ..

couple .. one claiming, one dependant, three children over the age of 18 claiming in their own right, plus two adults, related but not dependant, approximately 1023.00 euros weekly ... not counting rent allowance...

There were a couple in Co Clare with 6 kids who were able to claim up to €45k per year, they got themelves about the papers and they were vilified by the locals, the father hadn't worked since 2004, here's the article.

If they were living in Dublin they probably would have hit €50k per year as rent allowance is far higher in Dublin than in Clare.

Okay on child benefit its a great reason for the permanently poor as well as all the travellers to go around breeding kids like rabbits, child benefit should be limited to 3 children,eg if someone has 5 kids they should get the same level of child benefit as a couple with 3 kids, if you can't afford to have kids don't have them or limit the number of kids to what you can afford.

Children over the age of 18, still living at home, have the right to make social welfare claims in their own right .. they could receive 100 euros a week. Do housing assessments regularly and this would not be an unusual scenario? dunno
Also, many non irish housing applicants also have relatives living with them, brothers, sisters, parents ... each can make a separate and individual claim for social welfare and could receive 196.00 weekly? This is only dependant on having resided in the same area or in Ireland for over 12 months .. the habitual residency condition .. on top of that, they could also claim supplementary welfare allowance (rental subsidy) which would pay the majority of the rent due on a private rented property???

dunno

And so could any Irish person ... this is not limited to non Irish nationals .....

not meant as a criticsm .. this is the reality

This was in the 2002 census at a time when there were plenty of jobs available, sorry 73% amongst male travellers and 64% with female travellers. Shocking and it shows that the majority of travellers even when the ecoonmy was booming were workshy, lazy layabouts.
