Every relationship I've been around, whether it be friends or my own which has involved large and regular amounts of alcohol has been an utter disaster. It's never good!!

I totally agree i have never ever seen the sence in living life that way. What the hell is the use to live a life where you have to dring to get rid of your own feeling of insecurety. The more you drink the less of a person you become.I find it a real waste of a life. Not to mentiont the waste of money and the people you destoy along the way.doh

I think there is an official definition of a drunk - that being, someone who cannot go four days without a drink.

very interesting .. so a drunk and an alcoholic are different things, I didn't know that .. care to elucidate? .. I have searched the web for a concrete distinction but so far can't find one dunno

I have found a statement suggesting that if your drinking causes you problems, then you have a drinking problem, no matter what label you use. And obviously, by the same token, if your drinking doesn't cause you problems, you haven't.

It's funny how life changes you. when I was in my 20s I bragged childishly about how much I could drink .. and man did I ever drink. These days I am much more concerned with the quality of what I'm drinking.

thanks for that Phoenix .. I am aware of the word 'drunk' in both its noun and participle sense .. it's the concrete distinction by way of a formal definiton between 'a drunk' and 'an alcoholic' that's alluding me. Post that link, please.

josingleinspain: It is never about being funny or mean when you drink and get drunk. It is about the fact that you drink so much that you get drunk. It shows a person that has no self respect and therefore will have no respect for those around him or her.

Once again....I've seen people drunk and making fools out of themselves on two pints....And I know some who can sink 10-12 pints and they stand straight and conduct themselves properly.....It's not the amount that people drink but the effect it has on them...Why can't you good folk seperate the two???

I'm going to my 7/11 to buy wine and beer for myself for tonight..And the chances are I'll end up very squiffy...I have respect for others around me who don't drink...

Very interesting thread - Thanks Josie!

My brother called himself a Drunkard, said he was not an Alcoholic....(?) ......being that a Drunkard is a person who enjoys to drink and get drunk, and an Alcoholic is a person who cannot go without alcohol.

Well I guess that makes me a Semi-Drunkard! Cause I enjoy a few drinks, most especially after a day of hard manual labour ... to sit down and drink a couple whiskies and view my efforts and have the strain drain out of my muscles. But I hate the feeling of being drunk, when you can`t focus and balance or walk straight!..and your mouth goes numb and when you lie down you feel you spinning......

Same with performers who believe they "need" alcohol to "relax their nerves" ...... all that does is stuff up their performance, in my opinion, and then they drink more cause they cant understand why they did so badly?! .. and it becomes a vicious circle.

A heavy drinker? Someone who HAS TO DRINK. Ja, I know someone like that. And I would NEVER get involved with a person who has that addiction - it`s too dangerous.

Yet it is perfectly legal. Even though those people only get caught and fined when they get caught!... if they get caught .... IF they kill someone or cause an accident.....

The thing is that it is a very, very thin line to walk. I think and know it has a lot to do with the person that is doing the drinking. If you have control over your life and have respect for yourself you will not go there where control is lost.It is the same when you become an alcoholic. There is not control the only thing that has control is that bottle and nothing else matters but getting the fix so you do not have to feel the pain of your life. The things that you view that you failed at. It is amazing that if you look at stats not many young people is full blown alcoholics. To pick up the pieces of your life becomes more difficult with every sip you take.I will not get too personal but i have seen how it destoys lives.

How much do you want to loose.. (Mods..Just one book)

Yes they can....(As long as they are over the legal drinking age..Wouldn't want to encourage underage drinking)

Don't be so judgemental...What you've described sounds more like someone down on their luck..With nothing but the bottle for company...

My rasta is back next week...I'm in communication with the local Taliban..

that's sure true ... you dont have to be at any one particular place to get the booze bug .. and I'd never judge anyone in that situation .. complete opposite in fact .. I'm just glad I'm not there .. I hate that sicky feeling of too much booze, like when the rooms spinning and you see double and stuff. I have plenty of vices to contend with as it is ...
