Orla2010: It's so true though!!! We should have more of these threads and then it will become VERY EASY to narrow down the potential candidates!!!

JamesyMc: I`m sure you all know the situation with jobs in this country and their availability, I won`t need to explain but anyway my point is that any vacant positions from now on should be given to Irish people who are unemployed, why should they be given to foreigners, aliens to this country??
Employers should be somewhat biased in favour of the Irish candidate and the foreigner should always come second, we need to look after our own,
Would you agree?
I do understand your frustration, however it would be illlegal fot amy employer to discriminate against any employee due to their nationality under EU leglislation and we are all Eurpoeans now and must abide by the European laws, what ever the outcome, that is what we signed up to by joining the EU in 1972 and in the Lisbon treaty that apparently had to be put before the people twice for it to be ratified, and thats Irish Democracy for you where would we be with out it.

its very hard to prove, unless the employer blatantly comes out and say I gave the job to paddy because he was Irish, I dont employ foreigners, Irish only and I dont think any employer would be this stupid

it may be hard to prove, not really! if you are an empoyer and lets say have ten empolyed and all are Irish and for arguements sake say 20 foreigners applied for ajob with out any success and one bought a case against you for discrimination, what would be your defence in court, that the Irish were better workers, It would'nt wash that easily and you'd would find that it would be you that would have to prove you did not deliberatly discriminate against the person in question, common sence comes into play here and I agree no employer would be that stupid but neither would any judge hearing the case. from any outsder looking it is discrimination full stop! frustration I know and the situation of the country as it is but thats what we all voted for and are stuck with it. I do not agree with any form of discrimination and I know the Irish have been discrininated for years but we must move on from the past and look to the future for our children and future generations to come

I am sorry but I disagree we can not look to be blaming anyone else for the mess this country is in except to look at our own government. they have not made the necessary savings when the country was booming, and squandered millions from the top right down to every governmnet department, with their wages, not to mind the expenses let us not be fooled that they have stolen from their own people, there are a lot of volunteers that have died for this country and would turn on theirr grves it they saw the corruption that is going on around us to day.

We have been sold out by our Government and kid yourself not. and the blame should not lie on a people that come to this country that want to make a new life for their families, and I know all about certain nationalitis exploiting the situation but once again blame lies with the politions that have allowed this to happen, we are now in the situaiton that if an Irish citizen is outside the EU he must prove habitual residence to claim certain benefits on return to his native country. The Government here never thought tha bubble would burst or even cared because who always carries the can in any country except the PAYE tax payer, all they had to do was look at past trends around the world to know that eventually the same would happen in Ireland.

The Government now asks us to make sacrifices for their blunders, all I can say is the Irish people are very tolerent. becasue things are going to get a lot worse and the ministers etc will keep their mercs and perks, while children will go to bed hungry once in Ireland again and thats the sad reality of it all, I am sory but I get extremely angry at how this Government has failed their people miserabley
