well its not your fault, if the road was closed it was closed, I'm sure you'd get another date with him if he understood that you weren't standing him up it was just the road being closed and you were going to be late.
I'm heading down the N 11 to a wedding on Saturday and am worried in case there is delays but it's not mentioned on the AA website. Where about's are the road works on the road?

He had to head to Cavan, I didnt know when we arranged the date he was stuck for time but went i text him to tell him i was stuck in traffic and that id be late he apologized but had to go.

Which means if you arrived on time your date would of been 40mins long cause he had to get to Cavan

i mean coffees not gonna last much longter than 40 minutes
