rehoming a dog (44)

Oct 4, 2010 6:19 AM CST rehoming a dog
Ok, after much deliberation I've decided it's time to be a dog owner again. Breed wise I know what I want, give or take - which I know is a hugely emotive subject as everyone thinks their dog is the best.
My preferred breed is a boxer, I wanted a dogue de bordeaux but think they might be a bit big for the children, second choice a weinmeraner and I definitely don't want a lab or a retriever. Or anything small.
I want to rehome rather than buy a pup but ideally the dog will be under 3 - I thought I had found a couple of likely candidates but the GSPCA wont rehome with children under 7 and Ashton pound wont post down the forms or take my details over the phone to get the ball rolling & said it unlikely with the kids. moping
So does anyone know of any private sanctuaries, shelters etc I could try before I do the small ads.
I know it seems like a lot of conditions but if there's a boxer out there needing a home, it will get tons of love, space, walks and attention.

pop down to the GSPCA in town, they have a lovely selection in there, its best to re-home rather than buy one, save a life applause

I would get a dogue de bordeaux, they are very sociable dogs, may look fearsome but are big softies at the end of it all

Umm I like your thinking could be better than rehoming a man, easier to train, more reliable and more fun to be with.grin

If you can that would be great. My last dog was a rehomed boxer - he came to me as being "agressive" - truth was he was bored stupid. Never had a bother with him and I didn't think I wanted another boxer but there's not another breed comes close for me.

Boxers Smell and snore really loud ...oh they believe themselves to be Human and like to be in control...

Did i mention they Smell laugh their Farts that is ....Their mega energetic have No sense at all and any decent furniture or blinds are a chewfest for them until their nearly 3 ..

their more a house dog then outside dog and slobber everywhere ........

you might get a under 3 from a dog pound as a lot of people dont understand what their taking on ..I bought my last one on Donedeal ....Grew up with them as a kid and had one in my late 20s early 30s and now a 8 month old in my mid 40s ....

Why did i get one..cos their playful with the kids mega funny and can beat the crap out of any other dog out there if they want to rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

I know - I have a friend who has 2 - just they are much more slobbery than a boxer, you have to be ready for dirty furnishings and drooled on sheets for the next decade - then again I got kids laugh

cheers.
Yes a boxer would tick all the boxes laugh not bothered if male or female. Obviously going to be around kids. If there is one I'm happy to go to the sanctuary and walk it/take the kids, do some socialising etc.
Happy to wait for a dog to come along if they just want to take my details.
thanks

As in my original post - no luck with GSPCA and Ashton pound as I have small kids and it against their policy to rehome to families with kids under 7.
There's loads on DoneDeal - just thought I'd try and free up a place for another dog in a pound first.
