This bird here wouldn't mind a doctor or dentist. Not keen on a vet!

PS A bird is a UK term for girl, for our overseas friends here.

Aww, sorry to hear that. I had a budgie years ago who used to be so lovely - we had blinking games, I would blink for several seconds, open my eyes and he would do exactly the same - it went on for ages.

Back to Victor - are they any forums you go on that could advise you, or does your pet insurance cover for telephone advice.

Oh no, you should get pet insurance for pets. I hope those links above will help. You need to join a forum or website for advice in general. I hope he gets better soon and let us know on here please what happens.

Okay...spoken to him and he said it sounds like entiritis and it isn't viral, so it won't be passed on. He suggests you change the water to bottled stuff for the other birds. He says, sadly, they can't be treated for it. He had a few die with this illness and he used to have 80 odd at one time, so he knows his budgies.

In medicine, enteritis, from Greek words enteron (Small Intestine) and suffix -itis (Inflammation), refers to inflammation of the small intestine. It is most commonly caused by the ingestion of substances contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, diarrhea, dehydration and fever. Inflammation of related organs of the gastrointestinal system are:

* gastritis

stomach

* gastroenteritis

stomach and small intestine

* colitis

large intestine

* enterocolitis

large and small intestine

I already have thanked him...it only took a phone call back to the UK. I had a feeling he would have the answer.

I'll buy him a pint at Xmas...not seen him for 17 years!
